analytical papers for college admissions

new here
need help

one of my applications requires me to scan a graded and commented on analytical paper from an 11th or 12th grade english class and most of our work was creative writing stuffies

do research papers count as analytical papers?

An analytical essay has a thesis that is supported by body paragraphs.

That is about the broadest definition I can think of. A "research paper" is probably even more loosely defined. A research paper could be an analytical essay, but is not necessarily so. What was the research paper about?

if waterboarding is torture or not

it's more of a persuasion thing but i'm desperate

Did you do things along these lines?

-when a subject is chosen, take it apart, and examine each single part of it thoroughly;

-examine your subject in its historical context (if it is a painting, how is it connected to its epoch and artistic requirements?);

discover the message of the subject (what did the author want to say in an evaluated book, for example);

More importantly, do you have a thesis that makes a claim supported by body paragraphs and evidence? If yes to most of these I would say yes!

Yeah I was guessing it was probably persuasive but as long as it isn't a giant polemic I would think it would be okay. Of course it doesn't really matter what I think...:)

i think it's a no to the first three things and a yes to the rest
i'm so screwed

Ehh, those are just guidelines. The only non negotiable is the "thesis that makes a claim supported by body paragraphs and evidence?"

i dont know
i just have this feeling that it doesnt count as an analytical paper and that i'm just thinking that it might because i want/need it to because i'm out of options

thanks for the help

I don't think it's a massively huge deal if it doesn't follow the exact guidelines... for example, my paper was supposed to not exceed 5 pages and it was 5 and a quarter. Oh well.

Why don't you ask the college if your paper will be acceptable to them?
