And so it begins... (again)

With Sea Trials on Friday and the shoulderboard ceremony this afternoon, fourth class year has officially begun! Swab Summer was definitely a huge challenge for all of us, but I feel like I've grown a lot as a person since 30 June. Anyway, now that the academic year is starting I should have (a little) more free time on weekends and whatnot so if any 2013ers or whoever has any questions about the application process, AIM, swab summer, or 4/c year (as time goes on) I'll be happy to answer or find out the answer for you. Hope you enjoyed your summer, here comes school!

Great job Zach! BZ to you and your comrades. Hope to see you on parents weekend when I go up.

Letting everyone know I'm still here as well. Just like Zach here i'll be happy to answer any questions
JD

Great hardball! I was wondering how you were doing. It's been a long haul for you but you made it this far! Excellent. What company are you in?

I'm actually in Bravo with Zach here. It's been pretty good now that swab summer is officially over. I'm retaking a lot of classes again so the school isn't looking to bad for me
JD

Wait we're in the same company? I suppose I should figure out who you are then, huh? haha

This is why they change the companies after the summer...so's youse guys get to know each other. :D

Nevermind... the mystery was solved last night. The initials "JD" threw me off a bit.

I survived swab summer as well! I am still here and more then willing to help with any questions about the summer or 4/c year. I am just now trying to survive the school year. Just one day at a time. Homework load has not been too bad yet....

Just wait...ha ha :D

Congrats to you tman! Good job.

Hey, congrats to all three of you for surviving swab summer! I went to AIM this year and I saw how hard you guys were worked! It looked especially painful when a couple of the companies were ITd before meals...ouch lol. I do have a question though. Whats the difference between swab summer and the 4/c academic year? And how do the weekends work during swab summer and the academic year?

during swab summer saturday is just another day. sundays we woke up at 6 (instead of 5:30) and had command religious time from 8-12. Nothing really went on during this time unless you went to service. After CRT we had formal room and wing inspection prep, which was basically just 4 hours of cleaning time. Then dinner, then some sort of evening activity then bed.

During the academic year we have training most saturday mornings. after that liberty is granted until whenever (depends on what class you are), and then libo is usually granted at 0700 on Sundays from what I understand.

the main difference between 4/c year and swab summer so far is really twofold: 1) you are expected to know what you should be doing 2) academics are the focus. You're also treated like a human being most of the time which is a nice bonus.

lol, I guess that would be a bonus. Thanks for answering, I asked my cadre and he said..."less yelling and more classes which equals less free time." lol. What kind of training is involved on Saturdays during the academic year? Is it similar to swab summer or more focused on drill/indoc etc.?

If you are on a team with Saturday games/practices you are able to get out of some of the drills. On the negative side you might lose out on some liberty due to travel etc.
