Ok. Here's the thing. I wish I never told anyone I got into Princeton because it spread like wildfire around my school. Now whenever I get a question wrong on something or if I forget to do something, my teachers or fellow students will say under their breath (or NOT under their breath), "And YOU'RE going to Princeton?"

Or, one of my personal favorites, "Man! I should have applied to Princeton," and "You got into Princeton?! Maybe I'll apply there now," as if Princeton is now accepting anyone and everyone. Anyone else get this one? From like...the 3.0 kids, no extracurriculars, blah blah blah.

How can I deal with this and politely respond to these remarks, without being a rude arrogant jerk?

Dooood, people say this to me all the time. Most of the time, however, they're joking. I give them the Twitching, Psychopathic Eye, grin, and nod. Because after all, you're going to Princeton. And that's all that matters :) But those who actually are being serious when they say that, they're probably just jealous. And jealousy is too stupid a thing to deal with, so just brush it off and do the rock-away :D

You're a-gonna be at Princeton, man! And next year all those dolts who say things like that won't even matter...

im a huge slacker and basically argue with teachers about test dates/postponing and they are always like "and youre going to princeton!" dumbasses! just cuz im gonna go doesnt mean i cant still be a slacker! =P

haha i think we must all get that. someone i know (and who i'm not very fond of) made the same "well I should've applied to princeton" comment. so many times i had to hold back a mean response, but i agree with phil, just grin and bear it.

plus next year you'll be with a group of ppl who will celebrate ur accomplishments with you instead of using them to tear u down. and in the end YOUR GOING TO PRINCETON MAN!! woooo hoooo!

Yeah and other extreme overachievers who did not get into the ivy of their choice for whatever reason (granted admission to HYPSM is somewhat a luck of a draw), are especially jealous. And then false assumptions about Princeton as an "easy ivy" to get in are made. Lol yeah seriously the news spreads like wildfire way beyond my control. And so now I basically have to keep quiet about Princeton (keeping everything extremely lowkey, don't want to always remind people of that! People will remember what they want to remember)..........Hey in the end all it matters is that we ourselves have the love for Princeton, and it doesn't matter whether other people know it or not, or what they think of you.

People have been asking me if I got into Harvard, Yale, or Princeton, because my guidance counselor practically broadcasted that I applied there (just was always like, 'have you sent out your recommendations for Princeton yet? in the middle of the hallway). I'm almost embarrassed about it, and I always say I got waitlisted at H and Y first before I say I got into Princeton. However, not yet has anyone made a derogatory comment like "I should have applied." Someone made a comment about this girl that got into MIT (I overheard someone say, "well then, I should have applied to Harvard").

I'm From Romania.
So some ppl have never heard of Princeton, Harvard, Yale. Also, a lot of ppl can't speak English all that fluent.

So when a teacher heard i was going to Princeton, he had no ideea what that was. Not being that proficient in English either, he thought i was going to "Sprinter"

In any case, it was nice of him to congratulate me and praise my university.

Haha...I get that response constantly.
I've gotten all kinds of comments including: Cool! All it took to get in was good grades right? Oftentimes I can hardly keep from keeling over due to the oversimplification of my life of effort.
What follows, being that there aren't many people Ivy-bound on Maui, is usually: Wait, where's Princeton again?
I just smile.

Ivyboy and others - I can definitely relate to those comments. I've gotten a fair share of "You're going to Princeton? I should've applied there too!"
My classical response with intense sarcasm: "Yeah, you should've."

I find it so interesting that people are getting that sort of response... I haven't gotten /anything/ like that. Most people, when I say I'm going to Princeton, are like, "Oh my gosh wow congratulations!" and other utterances of awe.

People are surprised, mostly I think because my school doesn't send people to Ivy, but it's not a "I'm surprised you managed to get in because I don't think you're good enough" but more of a "I'm surprised because people from here don't ever go far away"
