Lol, so I stole this off Harvard's board... but still. I think it totally applies.
I get so embarassed when people ask me where I've applied! If you tell them "Princeton", some give you these looks of fake admiration, while some just pronounce in all-important voices that THEY think that one would get a much better education in a great school w/out the big name... which can be totally true, of course. But usually, I'm just like, "Oh, you know U. of Michingan, Brandeis, and some other schools..."

Right, I totally understand where you're coming from. That's why I don't tell anyone I'm applying. I just keep my mouth shut and say that I'll tell them if I get in.

haha... i do the same thing, "BU, NYU, Bklyn college..." never any amazing schools...one time i got really coy w/ somebody and went around in circles b/w good schools, schools in the NE, good schools in the NE, and schools at home to the question where i was applying. The person ended up saying" DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND THE WORDS THAT ARE COMING OUT OF MY MOUTH- YOU ARE A MORON- I CANT TALK TO YOU" it was funnny!!!!!!11

me too...
but applying to princeton has its advantages...girls come after u..maybe it was just a coincidence..but girls have been more attracted to me after i applied to princeton..
just imagine if i get accepted...lol

Yea, I tried to go around the question numerous times...but it gets crazy when people ask me "Are you applying anywhere ED?" and I start telling them what a great school NYU is. :D

So yea, I've been forced to tell a few people, but they wish me the best of luck. :)

I don't like telling people about Princeton because EVERYONE says "Oh you'll get it, don't worry!" and it's just frustrating to try and tell them that it's not that easy. I hope they're right, though!

^ Exactly what everyone says to me! Except I don't tell them where I'm applying, but they still say that. -_-;;;

i considered not telling anyone about applying to princeton ED, but i am not a good liar and tons of people ask me where i'm applying, cause college is a major topic of conversation, so yeah. plus now i just don't really care if people know, except that i don't like when they act all confident that i will get in.

I completely agree with windslicer about everyone telling me i'll get in. now i'll feel terrible if i don't. I also hate how nearly everyone reacts by talking about how expensive princeton is, and that i should apply to state schools where i can do just as well because there are examples of it and pay less. People seem to dislike me even more when i try reasoning that princeton offers very good if not the best financial aid.

Ditto greg.

ya, having a lot of ppl believe in you QUADRUPLES THE SHAME of getting deferred/rejected

yea, my physics teacher is now completely convinced that i'll get in.... but i'm not.

i completely agree with the whole dont worry youll get in thing. I just want to yell SHUT UP!

LMAO I hate that so much.
My friends all say, "Of course you'll get into Princeton. If you don't get in who wouldn't. We're going to throw you a Princeton party when you get in."
And I'm like uhhhhh....maybe all the kids who cured cancer?

On the other hand, my English teacher thinks it's funny I'm applying to Princeton because for some reason he thinks I'm stupid.

My, so many replies in just 20 minutes! Lol, so everyone feels the same way. But I'm actually like kraor - I hate lying, so if there's no way to get out of telling people, I just do. And of course they all wave their hands and say that I'll get in. It's actually pretty funny: I've told my friends so many times to STOP saying it, that now they are just like, "Oh, shut up. You are NOT getting in anywhere!" Very refreshing. =)

I applied RD, but I hate saying that I applied to princeton and the 2 other ivies that I applied to. I always try to dodge the question by saying the local schools that I applied to and then saying "some schools up north" but it usually doesn't work. They always ask which ones. And Greg, my own grandfather tells me that I'm stupid to apply anywhere other than Carolina because its such a good school and a good deal, so I know exactly where you're coming from.

I always just say, "Oh you know...Rice and some East Coast and some West Coast schools."

lol

(Because everyone in Houston applies to Rice, so it's not a big deal to say Rice here)

when people ask me if i applied early somewhere, i just say no...only my closest friends know i applied to princeton ED, and i dont think you should be obligated to tell someone just because they ask.

hahah I told a few people and it got spread around.
Mainly because my friends like to ignorantly shout across the classroom: OMGGGG WHEN ARE YOU GETTING INTO PRINCETON?

And it's worse for us Pton EDers because we can't just keep the decision a secret because it's binding.
So they'll know that if we apply to other schools, that means we got deferred/rejected.

in my case i didn't tell anyone except my closes friends either but then in my college office they give out reciepts when they send out your transcripts. A monitor in the office looked through all of them to find mine and felt the incesent need to tell the ENTIRE school- ARGH i was sooo ****ed- such an invasion of privacy!
