no they are phillipians…

Wait, then who are ‘smurfs’?

that is the derogatory name for phillipians

^we call ourselves smurfs lol. It’s just the character from the old TV shows and we call ourselves those cuz they were all blue…

I guess one of our Exeter traditions is that all four-year seniors wear red kilts for the fall E/A. Seeing about 200 students in kilts is a hilarious experience. And we have some pretty intense pep rallies before each E/A. For fall E/A, we have a “snake” or human chain, that goes around to all the dorms and collects kids, and then takes them to the field. There, we have a giant bonfire which leads into our pep-raly for the teams. I’m sure Andover has some sort of similar rally.

Wow, that sounds really fun.

You know, I’m just starting to realize this now, but turns out respecting your rival only makes the rivalry that much more intense, viz. that much more fun! I’m going to Exeter in the fall, and I can hardly wait, but Andover is the (second) coolest place ever! They’re both such awesome places. Wait, are you thinking of applying?

Yes, probably two both schools, for the fall of 2013, not this year.

Don’t you mean “A/E” :p, kidding! I went to Andover and my Exeter friends and I always joke around about whether it’s “A/E” or “E/A” :).

Dunno if this is relevant anymore, but I’ll add my two cents. The biggest Andover/Exeter days are in the Fall and Winter. Fall because of Varsity Football (and while Andover has lost four years in a row, we’ve won more games overall!) and Winter (probably) because of Boys Varsity Ice Hockey. A week leading up to A/E (or A/E weekend, instead of “day”), we have what is called “Spirit Week.” Each day, Monday thru Friday, we have a different theme (from Andover Spirit Day to Exeter Geek Day). On Exeter Geek Day, even some teachers get involved (especially in the Math department). We even have a mock Exonian newspaper the Phillipian prepares for that day.

I’ve always thought it’s a rather healthy rivalry. I’ve made some Exeter friends while I was at Andover, and the rivalry between our schools has only served as a source of great entertainment between us. The athletes might take it on a more personal level, and I remember one year that some Exeter SLAM girls were pretty aggressive towards some Andover SLAM girls. SLAM is, in effect, our “cheer” team (along with our Blue Key Heads) but they are not cheerleaders. I know former President Bush was mocked for being a “cheerleader” at Andover. He was a Blue Key Head, which is extraordinarily different.

What are Andover pep rallies like?
