Andover Online Books

When we went to register our student at a peer school, the line at the campus bookstore was looooooong and it was hot and humid waiting to get into the air conditioned bookstore with our student's assigned schedule and list of required reading.

So when a parent whose student attends Andover told me about their new online app where you can buy both new and used books online and have them delivered right to your door, I have to admit I was jealous. Until he told me that they were delivered over the weekend naked in a cardboard box without bubble wrap, and ruined in the deluge we had Labor Day Weekend in the NE (including a tornado in Worcester County).

$500 dollars of books down the drain.

Am still hoping for an online option at our BS in the future; however, safeguards have to be in place to ensure that this costly part of boarding school goes off without significant glitches. I hope he stopped payment on his CC for the damaged books which were not well protected, or the school was willing to reimburse the family or replace the costly purchase!

I have used Amazon and searched many online textbook stores to get books last year and this year. First term at new school last year he went to the bookstore. Partly bonding, partly because he didn’t get classes/book list until he arrived at school.

You can also have the books shipped right to school. When my daughter arrived at school last week, we saw one tall stack of boxes of textbooks that had already arrived for many students.

We used an online bookstore which was set up by our son’s school. It was so easy. His classes were listed and then you just scroll down to,the teacher and all the required books were there. You then had the choice of buying them at that store or through another place. I compared at Amazon, but found the prices to be comparable, especially because there were some used books available. I like that they will buy the books back at the end of the year. We just had them sent directly to the school and we picked them up in the mail room yesterday.
My only issue was how small a box we received for 700$!

@Momto4kids you got that right!!! I tried to buy all used books but did have to buy a new Spanish book. Even the used books are expensive!

Anyone on this forum know how much they give you when they buy the books back?

Also, should the kids write their names in their books or will this negatively impact buy back price?
