Laugh, Laugh…that’s funny Mainer. :D

Urban: No. It is even funnier. Read the article. They even shave the link to collegeconfidential.com and claim that bloggers have a higher acceptance rate than the greater unwashed non-blogging public. Now were they serious? Who knows, but some applicants have questioned whether the people that post here are representative of the general applicant pool to boarding schools? If the Columbia post was serious (unlikely) then maybe it will make applicants here feel better too.

and on the May 10th date. If you believe it, then you can relax and enjoy life and we can wake you up on March 10th.

What school do you go attend, Winterset?

i think she is a parent of a sps student

I’m afraid that you guys will call me Ms.silly…sorry if I get you wrong!!! I’m trying really hard!!

What do you mean, gonnastop?

Don’t worry gonnastop, I think your doing very very well. I can’t imagine being able to express myself as well as you do in a foreign language. The majority of kids on CC are very bright and therefore tend to be better in English than your average american so it’s not a far comparison. From what I’ve seen your writen english is on par with some of my classmates who were raised speaking only english in a mainly english speaking country. I don’t think you or anyone else who occasionally struggles with the intricies of english is silly at all. Plus, irony and sarcasm often doesn’t translate that well, don’t beat yourself up over it :D

Ok I get what you mean gonnastop. I’m an non-native speaker too and I understand your insecurities. Let me tell you something, your English is perfect. If you had not told me, it would not have occurred to me that English is not your first language.
I understand that you’re not comfortable expressing yourself in English. For example, many people on here agree that saying “like” sounds a little uneducated, and I do not consider myself uneducated, but I say “like” a lot. Saying “like” gives my brain time to translate my thoughts into proper English, just as saying “uhm” and “well” does.
Also, remember gonnastop, practice makes perfect. Don’t worry, you have plenty of time to hone your language skills before you apply next year.

Assign said to gonnastop:

I agree and will add that I would say the same about your English, Assign. Really, you guys impress the heck out of me. I say that not because I find it hard to believe that you are capable, but because I know how INcapable I would be off attaining that kind of fluency in any non Germanic or Romance language.

Thanks guys! This will make me laugh for a week or more!
I intend to be a translator who introduces great books to China. So I’m learning English and Spanish. I love them so much!
English here is just as important as Chinese. There’s much debate about t and people say we are probably the last generation who are required to take English from 9 to 24(3rd grade to graduate). English is tested in every single entrance exam and the scores you get are the only thing that colleges/high schools/middle schools look at. Sounds ridiculous…

So don’t be amazed if you see someone who speaks English way better than I do! But I’m pretty sure that I’m one of the few kids who enjoy learning!
