Just wondering how many people are on the waitlist for 9th grade and how many places have there been in previous years. Do they sometimes not even take off the waitlist? What does the waitlist is not ranked mean? Please Respond.

Over the past two years, Andover has removed 0 students total from the waitlist. This has been because of an enormous yield approaching 80% - far ahead of any other east coast boarding schools. And even with no students taken from the waitlist, we’ve still been slightly over-enrolled.

However, that is not to say that there’s no hope for those on the waitlist. If you really show interest to the Office of Admission, through a thoughtful letter or through keeping them up-to-date with your achievements, you never know - they might be inclined to take you off the waitlist.

Is there a chance that a 10th grade day student applicant will be taken off?

Well, none have for the past two years…

Tom thanks for the response. I have called the admission office and asked how many people were on the wait-list for 9th grade boarding. They said 50. I am assuming this # will go down due to people taking their name off to attend other schools. I wrote the minute I got my waitlist letter to Mrs. Fried telling her how I still wish to attend andover and updating her on my recent accomplishments (winning the NE Championships in Wrestling and Wrestling and having a medium talking role in a movie directed by Wes Anderson.) I also contacted my interviewer for advice. He promptly responded and said that he would continue to push for me and how he was extremely happy thatI was staying on the wait list. I hope I get off albeit unlikely because then I will have to stay for 9th grade at my current school and re-apply to many more schools to make sure I get in to 1.

Hi kikithefish. I’m also planning to stay on Andover’s waitlist until a certain date. I know that they divide the list of 9th grade waitlisters by boarding/day, as well as gender. I’m just curious, did you apply as a boarder or day student? And are you a boy or girl?

Hey Kiki, I love Wes Anderson as much as the next guy, but I’d be careful about providing too many personal details online…

Although the number of students on the waitlist might go down because of applicants going to other schools, it will probably go back up when the late applicants get waitlisted.
