animal science

is there anyone who has or is planning to major in animal science? I'm interested and I'd like to hear how it is/ if there are other people interested as well.

you mean zoology?

i know someone who is planning to major in dairy science--va tech. i think it's a good school for animal-type stuff, especially ag/farm programs. if that's what you're looking for.

nope...Animal Science.

I majored in Animal Science for one semester as pre-vet. I changed to Biology after I realized veterinary medicine wasn't for me. There was quite a bit of overlap between the two.

I don't know much about the major, however, I can tell you that the University of Tennessee - Knoxville has a very good animal science program. It's at their agricultural campus, which is down the road from the main campus, and it's the part of the school that awards the most scholarships and financial aid.

My brother is interested in animal science, he wants to be a vet, so he's checked into it. So you might want to look into UT. =D

No. In Zoology you study wild animals. In Animal Science you study domestic animals.

For majoring in animal science look at UC Davis.

My friend is planning on majoring in Animal Science, and I know she had a hard time finding schools that had it. I think U of VT was one of them.
I'm interested in veterinary medicine, but I'm not planning on majoring in AnSci.

Here's an example of a program: http://catalogs.rutgers.edu/generated/nb-ug-0507/pg21043.html

I was an animal science major -- at UConn, in the 70s.

Animal Science is a major within the College of Agriculture, and the focus is on food and fiber production from animals. You can do a pre-vet concentration within the major, or pre-vet can be done as a bio major, or you can just do the pre-vet rrequirements along with any major.

Many of my classmates went on to manage dairy herds, beef herds etc. Others went to vet school. Others went into Extension work or work with the USDA.

I did an equine concentration -- and worked with horses for a few years after college -- and then went into technical writing and marketing. My last job before having kids was marketing progesterone tests for dairy cattle.

I now own and run a pet store -- and use the information garnered from my education every single day. And since there's not a lot of pet store owners with an animal science degree, I come across as very educated. (When you can explain the differences in small animal hays in one coherent paragraph, people tend to notice!)
