Animation vs. Physical Therapy???

When I applied for college, I was accepted as a Fine Arts student. After a year of that, I became freaked out about the idea of freelancing or unemployment in my field so I switched into 3D Animation in hopes that it would be a more stable yet still creative career choice. I only have 3 semesters left of the program and I really have no interest in creating 3D animations nor do I have any interest in trying to survive as an animator after college. There is still this sense of unemployment in the near future with this degree since I wasn't able to learn animation as well as I had predicted. I have plenty of ambition but hardly any skill to work with.

I've been looking into programs at community colleges in the area and in my home town (since I won't have enough money to fund another change in major). I did discovere that I have an interest in Physical Therapy Assisting and want to pursue that but my parents are extremely disappointed and upset about my plan.

I am really conflicted by my parent's reaction and my want to pursue an A.A.S. in PTA. I need some second opinions on the situation.

I am biased because I have a passion for animation. Plus the fact that Frozen broke a billion encourages the idea of animating. Not so much CG animation but definitely hand drawn.

But yeah, it’s really rampant to be unemployed in the animation business, as there are simply too many talents. Plus if you want a family, your spouse and kids would probably see minimal of you, as animators typically need to work overtime.

And as boring psychical therapy is to me, I can’t deny it being a more stable career.

Before you take prerequisite courses for PTA, it’s best to job shadow/observe in the various departments that administer PT, including a physical rehabilitation hospital that treats patients with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), spinal cord injury/paralysis, stroke (“brain attack”) which is a type of brain injury, other neurological disorders, hip/knee/shoulder replacement, amputated limbs or such - pediatric hospital - nursing home/long-term care facility or such.

Perhaps your parents are concerned about potential liabilities (risk for lawsuits) of a PTA or PA (?) It may not happen often, but a patient might “fall down” (such as if has balance/instability issues) or get burnt from a heat pack while in therapy. I’m not sure if we’re permitted to name professional organizations on these boards (as opposed to actual sites), but I would post the name(s) if we’re allowed to do so.
