Anita: I'm sorry...

Are you going back this summer, kman?

No, I will not be going back until next summer at the earliest, but probably not until junior or senior year in college.

I spent two weeks in Ningbo and didn’t go to any other cities. :( Oh well, next time I’ll do a lot more visiting.

QQ, do you have any relatives in MA? Because right now I'm at someone's house who has your last name, who also came from Ningbo, and and who went to grad school at Duke lol. it's probably a coincidence.

I’m pretty sure I don’t have any relatives in MA (at least none that I know of :)), although my dad might have old college friends there. I’m also an only child, and none of my cousins live in the US.

Besides, our last names are pretty common. ;)

QQ and purrli are related. Interesting trick, but is not Ningbo a large city?

yes it is rather common. I was just curious whether you guys possibly came from the same "clan", like in my mother's hometown everyone in the area has her last name and came from the same ancestry, even though it's a rare "Hui" (muslim) name. The person I was talking about was a colleague of my dad's. He met his wife at Duke and coincidentally she also has the same last name. So whenever there's a company outing or something everyone would think we are one huge family.

err.. I'm not from Ningbo kman. I know CC is a small world but I doubt it's that small to find long lost cousins here :)

That is what I thought. I remember you once said something like you came from the Nanjing area, or am I wrong?

I wonder how that works? Is it because of the immigration laws that China set down to prevent overcrowding in urban areas?

I think so. It's either because the govt. parcels out the jobs in the old days, or that you're bound to attend the schools in your region and the urban schools are better than the rural ones.

Because of the one-child law, there are many second and third children without 'ID' (I'm not sure what's the right word. Unregistered?) in the countryside. I was pretty surprised to hear that some of my paternal relatives offered to raise me in the country so my family can have a male grandchild, but luckily my parents are more enlightened than that.

Yeah, all of my cousins are the only children in their families (to my knowledge, at least). I've never met any of my relatives in China, so I don't know much.

Were you born in America kchen?

Yes. I have lived in the same city for my entire life. What about you?

I lived in Ningbo until I was six, then moved to KY and lived there for ten years, then moved to WV a year ago.

wheres ningbo?

china righta/

Yeah it's in eastern China in Zhejiang Province
