So far, we’ve gotten at least two emails from UCSC about “if you get in”. I mean, maybe it’s a good sign, but seriously, when we are waiting, (and based on my sign in, by we, I mean me…my son is cool as a cucumber about it), all these emails are annoying me.
That goes also for DU, sending us an “Admission Newsletter” that gives us no information ABOUT ADMISSION.
I’m not sure why I’m getting the DU one. Maybe from the SAT parent email? Ad on top of it that my sophomore daughter gets mail daily from them now, including a large envelope last week. Maybe cool it with the large envelopes until April.
We still get it’s still not to late to apply! emails and those don’t bother me. And I do have a delete button. I’m just wondering why these orientation emails HAVE to be scheduled before admissions decisions go out. As if we can’t get the TB tests and other items between March and August. If you get in…oh no, never mind. That said, I expect my son will get into all but his reach schools (and very well might get in to those). That’s not the issue.
I got those “it’s not too late to apply” emails from random colleges for a year after my youngest had gone off to college. I warned other parents not to let their kids apply to those desperate schools!
Mass, it doesn’t necessarily mean those aren’t good schools. The ones I’ve seen seem decent, just a smaller school that might not have a big enough profile for most candidates. Other schools, like Ole Miss and Evergreen State have seen their enrollment decline as a result of poor administration decisions with regard to free speech and equal access to diversity of thought on campus, so I’m guessing they need to continue to recruit.
DU. Haven’t heard from UCSC yet. I’ve heard that UC Riverside and Irvine start today, and the rest of the UCs in the next 2 weeks.
Yesterday, my daughter got a large envelope to Reed. Son didn’t apply to Reed, but still deflated by the promise of a large envelope after hearing that UCONN doesn’t notify by portal but by mail. I’ve heard UCONN has started to send out.
He looked at the Portal a few days ago, and got his acceptance letter with merit aid award yesterday. Still very expensive for us though. Will be interesting to see if a) he gets in to UCs and b) how competitive the aid is (if it makes sense to stay in state, though they don’t offer the special needs support he needs)
oops, yes I meant Mizzou. Hope I didn’t offend anyone by this mistake. What can I say, I try not to typify coastal elite, but sometimes I guess guilty as charged.
Me too. Though I’ve lived in Colorado, I’ve never lived in the South or Midwest, but I so have friends from all over and bristle when the local media paints them as hicks and rednecks.
