ANNpower VitalVoices 2015

this situation is starting to feel ridiculous. can anybody tell me what number to call? because no one has responded to my email.

@jezreader From the website: If you have any questions about the Fellowship or application process, please email: ANNpower@vitalvoices.org or call Vital Voices at 202-861-2625.

@navyblue18 congratulations! Was it an email or an actual letter?

I’m scared to email because I don’t want to seem annoying, I know it’s unlikely to affect my chances but in case whoever reads it is in a bad mood or something…

Thank you! It was by e-mail- I actually e-mailed them a few days ago asking about the status of the applications, but I never got a response so I guess it wont effect you. I don’t think they’re sending out rejection letters yet since everybody has to confirm by a certain date that they can attend the conference and I’m sure they haven’t even finished looking through everybody’s apps! Good luck, you all deserve to be on it!

@navyblue18 thanks so much for the info and congratulations!!! What date do you have to confirm by? As more of us might hear soon after that (if people can’t go)

@Eilat99 no problem and thank you!! It said by tomorrow, and a girl I know got accepted a little over a week ago.

Ok guys, I think I’ve figured it out. They haven’t rejected us because they need to see if anyone can’t come, in which case they will find an alternate person to fill in for them. I’m pretty sure I’m rejected, but I’ll just go to HOBY I guess

Yeah I really doubt I’m getting in at this point but I think I’m gonna try and do my service idea anyway! I think you all should too, especially if it’s something you’re really passionate about.

Here’s something to think about for anyone who’s anxious - read this before you find out whether or not you get in, it applies either way- so here goes : Everyone applying worked very hard. You wrote a bunch of essays and checked them, but most of all developed an innovative idea. You did something you are truly passionate about and that’s what matters. Even more, you took the initiative to not only help yourself become more effective leader, but to spread change in to your community. You are an action maker. There’s a little Gandhi quote I’ve read before that’s something among the lines of “Be the change you want to see in the world.” And that’s what you did. You started our idea, and no matter how small it might be now, it is a start. You took action. You decided to become a leader. You are the change. Not only that, but you are the changer of the future. You are the person the world will rely one. You are a future leader of America, or whatever country your from, whether it’s in the traditional sense of becoming the president, or impacting your community, or doing something meaningful with your life. And guess what- you already are. Getting accepted obviously means that Vital Voices trusts that you are these things, but getting rejected doesn’t necessarily mean you aren’t. Because you are in control of your destiny, not a group of admissions officers. And don’t even take it personally, because people get rejected for all sorts of reasons and you could be an awesome person and leader, but just not what they are looking for. For example, think of it as an audition. Certain actresses are better fit for certain roles. Maybe they wanted someone in music leadership but already had an idea similar to yours. Maybe your geographical region is overrepresented. The idea is that they want a well-rounded group, and could do so many times over. At the end, it’s all kinda random. Just keep your head up and you can make a change, even if not everything goes as planned.

@Eilat99 Preach

I think that either:
They already have a waiting list lined up in case people can’t go so we’ll all hear in the next couple days, like today or tomorrow probably.
Or they don’t, so need to review more apps, and we’ll hear late this week or more likely next week.
Let’s hope it’s the first.

There’s a facebook group for 2015 ANNPower fellows

@jaidsmom congratulations!!!I haven’t heard yet but will let you know if I get in

My friend called annpower, they said they are still reviewing applicants but accepted some last week, and we should hear by the end of this week

That’s great! Good luck everyone. Msg me if you get in and I’ll forward the link to the fb page someone started.

Just got my (expected) rejection. Oh well. Anyways, everyone waiting should check your emails - they said that all the fellows have been chosen at this point.

Me too- I was just rejected.

Sorry guys. I assume they were waiting on openings because yesterday was the deadline to get papers back. Hopefully a few people will get some good news. And if you are sophomores apply again next year for sure.

Well I will just use this rejection as motivation to make my project so amazing they will regret not accepting me and getting the publicity
