Annual hits and misses holiday gifts thread

I wish we could get the :hushed: (wow, surprised, unbelievable) emoji back - I feel the need to use it ALL the time - nothing else we had takes it’s place!

Absolutely agree! The wow/surprised/:exclamation: is the one I most feel the loss of.

Slight side note: I can no longer add to ANY emoji’s except for the thumbs up (I can place them in my comments - but not add to the string below another’s comment). If anyone knows a post that helps this issue, please share or PM. FWIW, I posted this dilemma several times on the general issues thread, but no response.

In the mean time, if you see a thumbs up from me below your thread, it means just about everything  :smiling_face_with_tear: :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:  :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Same here! I’d like a solution, too!

If you hover over the thumbs up, it displays some additional emojis to choose from.

It did, but now it doesn’t anymore starting this morning.

Oh that’s too bad. On my iPhone it still works.

Unfortunately, no. The thumbs up is greyed out. Nothing appears when I hover. When I click on it, it will register, but offers no alternatives. (Sorry… don’t want to sideline this thread, however).

I didn’t know that. Thanks!!!

Ok, that is super cool. I am woefully ignorant of mammoth anatomy and was going to ask a question, but decided to do an internet search instead. In case anyone else is interested in learning more, this site was very informative!

Great link- thanks @AustenNut!

Several Christmas presents from my three 20-something sons to me/DH/each other were fuzzy pictures of items they’d ordered but hadn’t arrived in time, since they don’t really get the concept of ordering early. Fuzzy because they waited to print pictures of the items on Christmas Eve at my house rather than on their own printers prior to coming home and discovered my printer was low on ink and I didn’t have another cartridge. But the opening of the variously wrapped / gift bagged pieces of paper and then trying to guess what it was a picture of actually turned out to be fun and funny. And then the gifts arrived during the next week or so, extending Christmas a little longer.

A hit, a miss, and a buyer beware…

I ordered a gift card for my son from the Noodles & Company website. I was feeling lazy and decided to pay the $3 shipping cost to avoid going to the restaurant and buying it in person, so I spent $28 for $25 worth of food. The gift card was a hit for a grad student who hates to cook and walks right by a Noodles on his way home from campus.

Today I got my credit card bill and discovered I was charged an $11 fee because they considered the gift card a cash advance. So now I paid $39 for $25 worth of food. A miss for me! I did call the credit card company to complain, and they removed the fee but it is their policy to charge a cash advance fee on gift cards

I’ve never been charged a cash advance fee when I’ve purchased gift cards and would complain loudly too. Boo!

I used the same card to buy some Chipotle gift cards at a grocery store (with groceries) and those weren’t picked up by the credit card company.

I wanted to get some Blaze Pizza e-cards from Costco, but now I’m hesitant. I would use a Costco credit card so maybe it won’t be a problem.

We never got charged extra for any gift cards purchased at Costco, and we have bought quite a few.

That’s craaazy. I bought gift cards by the dozen over the last year - getting promo credits at various stores in the process - to go toward our bathroom remodeling. If I’d been charged cash advance fees that would’ve negated all my crafty shopping strategies. Which credit card was this, so I can avoid them in the future?

U.S. Bank. Their phone representative mentioned it was coded as a cash advance rather than a purchase - I don’t know how it gets coded; maybe it was a Noodles issue???

These hand warmers, suggest on a gift thread here, were a hit for my daughter. She uses them during marathon knitting sessions!

Ember Mug. I would have rolled my eyes at a smart coffee cup (a what?) but I am absolutely loving having my coffee and tea at the perfect temperature until the last drop. I am going to get a second one for the office!
