Annual hits and misses holiday gifts thread

DD gave one to DS (the tea drinker). He loves it. His reaction as he finished his first cup of tea from it had us laughing. It freaked him out a little that the tea was still warm…as intended, of course! Lol

I have purchased many gift cards over many years and never been charged as a cash advance.

My son offered me one of those ember mugs bc it was something he could get from his company as a Christmas gift. I turned it down, but interesting to hear people really like them. I may have to take another look.
Do those of you who like them drink at home or on your way to work, for example? Thanks

My daughter received an ember mug from her FIL. She loves it as she drinks coffee very slow. It would be worthless to me as I drink a large cup a coffee pretty quick.

ETA, big hit for me is D and SIL are taking me to PR in 6 weeks. :beach_umbrella:

I think I’m more like you. One latte while I’m getting dressed, and one as I’m heading out the door, if I have morning plans.

I don’t know if I’ll buy one of these myself, but I’d love it if someone bought one for me!

I’m a slow sipper. M-F I’m drinking one cup slowly (well, about 12 ounces) while working. I would benefit from a warmer!

The one i have is an actual mug so not appropriate for commuting. I think the do make a thermos style one but a thermos will keep your drink hot anyway? Though the issue I have with those is that it keeps my coffee from cooling down enough to drink.

What I like about it is that I get to drink from a proper open mug which I find infinitely more pleasurable. I love when I have time to sit at the coffee shop and don’t have to take my cappuccino in a to-go cup.

That’s how I usually am too. But now that the temperature is just right I find that I am reaching for it more often and before I know my coffee is finished.

@CottonTales and @1214mom until now I never noticed how quickly the temperature drops and how much better that warm sip is!

For about $15 you can buy a plug in coaster that keeps your drink hot. I think I got mine at bed, bath. Doesn’t keep it at the “perfect” temperature but I just let it cool to where I want it and then stick on the coaster. Can’t travel with it though but otherwise I’m not getting why it’s better to have the mug.

I received a thermo mug (from Starbucks) and it kept my tea hot (too hot to drink really) from when I left the house, rode the bus, walked to school), about 50 minutes. Then I’d pour out what I needed and drink that, repeat until gone. I could make more at school but it doesn’t taste as good because of honey and milk I have at home.

They do sell tops for the ember mugs, but I know that ruins the experience of drinking right from a mug for some people.

nah, the proper pronunciation is “antipasto” according to a friend of Italian descent. :joy:

My husband got the Ember mug for Christmas in 2021 - he loves it, but the inside has gotten very discolored. I’m wondering if the instructions offered any insight about how to prevent that.

I don’t remember seeing anything other that hand wash.

Hydro Flasks are stainless steel and they sell tablets to clean coffee stains from the surface of their bottles/mugs.

Also search Amazon for “stainless steel mug cleaners” and several other brands of tablets pop up.

I wonder if you could try denture cleaner instead.

Plain old Magic Eraser (or store-brand equivalent) works for me on stainless and ceramic. I’m not sure what material is in those “fancy” mugs.

I’ve had great luck with white vinegar and baking soda for coffee stains on mugs.

I just wash them with a dishcloth and it mostly comes out? I don’t care too much about my hydroflask because it’s mine only, but if my ceramic mugs start getting icky a quick swipe with the dishcloth and some some soap sets 'em straight. I do wash my Hydroflask, too, when it starts getting bad, but I have a higher tolerance for staining in it because I know no one else has been drinking anything out of it.

@Marilyn - I have used baking soda for years to clean out coffee/tea mugs.

Barkeeper’s Friend works great, too.
