Another Asian for Prep Schools, or maybe not

Thanks for the optimism @gogroton2016, just curious, what did you get for your ISEE/SSAT scores? I definitely need good luck and good luck to you too. Also, are you in the Boston Area?

@badminton4life nope. West Coast kid here… I took it last year and got a 88… I studied like crazy for the October SSAT this year and got a 97th overall percentile… but at the end of the day, SSAT scores aren’t the admit or not factor, in my opinion.
Good Luck!

California? why don’t you apply to like harvard westlake and like stanford online high school and like cate or something

@badminton4life I am from California and I got to boarding school in Massachusetts. Not many people in CA go to boarding school. Just like people coming from the east coast, we still want the “authentic” boarding school experience, which can ususllly be found in schools on the east coast.

@cababe97 you attend Berkshire correct? Do you like it? I have heard wonderful things about it.

Yes! I love it:) Im so thankful for all that the school has done for me. Feel free to pm me with any questions. @Center

@cababe97 can’t you get the same or maybe even better at like harvard westlake or some other prestigious school?

Harvard Westlake isn’t a boarding school @badminton4life

@badminton4life Harvard-Westlake is a great school, but it’s not a boarding school, so one would have to live relatively close to make it a practical reality. Thacher and Cate are great boarding schools in California, but they have relatively small class sizes as compared to the larger schools on the east coast, and that may be a factor for some California applicants–it’s one of the reasons my child applied to only east coast schools.

@badminton4life and I’m just not a huge fan of the Cali schools, mainly because I have friends who attend Thacher, Cate and Harvard Westlake, and they just cant seem to focus in the California sun. Plus, I’ve always been an East Coast person… not much of a Cali lover…

@badminton4life 1) Harvard Westlake is on the opposite side of the state and it’s not a boarding school. 2) Not trying to be mean, but just something’s gn you should be aware of, please stop saying “like” in front of every other word 3) I can’t find the same or “better at a more prestigious school”. I love Berkshire. It’s a really good school and while it may not have the academics rigor of Exeter, it is still challenging academically and athletically. Berkshire has bettered my life in so many ways and made me the person that I am today. It is such a supprtouve community and I wouldn’t want to be attending school anywhere else. Part of the reason I wanted to attend boarding school on the east coast was for the true boarding school “experience” I guess you could say. I wanted to have a fresh start, I wanted to see snow and foliage and get to go see cities like New York City and Boston. Going to boarding school for me was about being independent and making a life for myself. I didn’t want to be in California for many reasons, which is why many California applicants don’t want to go to boarding school in the state. There aren’t many people from California that go to boarding school, or at least as many who are from the east coast. Just like people on the east coast, we still want to go to good, challenging schools for high school. You need to be careful about how you say things o that’s you don’t offend any body. Saying things like “find even better, more prestigious schools” than the one I go to can be received as offensive. Do you get where I’m coming from? @badminton4life

Yes I understand, thanks. @cababe97

Groton is small, so few spots. IMHO, you really have to have a hook. I’d cast a wider net.

what is IMHO? @preppedparent

In My Honest Opinion

or Humble…I meant humble. Take everything I and everyone write with a grain of salt. We’re just tryin to help, well most of us.

thanks @preppedparent and @Center
