Another chance thread

Hey nerds,

I don't really feel like laying out all of my accomplishments here, but I just wanted to ask a quick question. I read an article saying that Ivy League Schools will take "Average" applicants and accept them if they are good enough to be on a sports team. So I am a competitive swimmer, and the times I see for the Ivy League schools are definitely within reach.

That said, I had highest PSAT in my class of 127, have 4 or above on all APs, started a club at my school (the culture club), am in NEHS ( looking to be president, most people in the club like me), and am currently volunteering for the Mitt Romney campaign (my boss said he and his higher-ups would definitely write me a good letter, I will work there about 20+ hours a week, from now until election day.)

So, would my otherwise banal application be raised to potential Ivy status if I had definite potential to score points at the Ivy conference meet??

^Don’t assume that is my full app.

honestly, this depends on how much the certain IVY Leagues you look at value swimming. some might, some might not. look into the schools you are interested in and see how their swim team does and how much they invest in them. you can learn a lot about a school by how much they invest in a particular sport. that said, assuming you are an unbelievably amazing swimmer, your application will be valued a bit more as long as you dont bomb any standardized tests or quit your ECs all at once. hope this sheds some light on the situation
