So my stats are bad:

SAT: 1330 (660V, 670M)
GPA: 2.84 uw, 3.57 w
EC: very good (but many have to do with being conservative, I hope UT isn't bias, I hear it's very liberal)
Essays: Very good

So here I am, thinking of a very very low chance. I'm from out of state (NJ) and am applying to Liberal Arts & Sciences.

I get an interesting e-mail. First off, let me say one of my essays is very personal about family issues, hoping to rectify my GPA. While it is 100% true, I didn't think it would mean jack, considering the essay topic and all of the people that probably have (fake or not) stories.

The assistant director of admissions e-mailed me and said "Your essay about your **** was very well written and it must have been very difficult for you to write about."

I thought that was very interesting. Would they try to give me such hopes if they planned to reject me. I haven't received a decision yet. Wouldn't it be very uncommon for a school of so many applicants to get a letter specifically pertaining to their essay? Has this happened to anybody else?

I'm hoping this is a sign of good things, considering the things I wrote about, I deserve a better chance then my raw stats.

I continue to hear rumors that Texas couldn't care less about essays. I guess all I can do now is hope for the best; The anxiety is overwhelming.
