Another Chance Post

Hi, I would like to kno what kind of chance I have to get into UT Austin.

I am an African American, from a very prestigous private boarding school, that does not rank. I am a Texas Resident however I go to school outside the state. I have lived overseas in the middle east until the 10th when i went to B.school.
Stats

I have a 3.6 Unweighted GPA.

I dont have any AP courses at this time, because enrollment in AP's is very limited at my school. There are only 10 possible AP classes to take, however senior year I will be taking 2 AP's.

I take the SAT's in May, but my projected score will be the equivalent of atleast a 1400. I say this because of my PSAT scores.

I do a lot of community service for my community service club, I sponser the blood drive, work in soup kitchens, run the can drive. I also have taught kids how to read.

I have played lacrosse for 10 years of my life.
Clubs: Amnesty, Habitat for Humanity, Debate Club, Student Mentor.
I also have a job.

I'm pretty positive that my recs will be good, and that I can write a good essay. Do you think I am in to UT?

As of now, I want to go into either Psychology or Advertising

I am also considering Rice, Boston University, New York University, Michigan, USC, Baylor, A&M.

I think you have a great chance of getting in, especially if you really get that 1400 SAT score. Go for it.

1400 on the old test or the new test?

Old Test, so that would be around a 2100

you'll get in. I'm dumber than you and I got in (I'm not saying that you're dumb, because you're obviously not) Go for it!

Advertising is extremely difficult to get into (a good agency). Take a curriculum that will set you apart. If you are truly fluent in a 2nd language, that's a huge plus.

In advertising agencies, there are several groups of people. If you can decide where you'd fit, it will help determine what to study:
CREATIVES: copywriters, art directors. Psych. with adv. minor (or vice versa) could be good for this. They're most interested in work samples, even if done for classes.
MEDIA PLANNERS/BUYERS: You determine which media will most efficiently reach the target audiences, purchase the media, and reconcile billings to budget. You'll want stats, maybe database, accounting and media classes from advertising school. An accounting/advertising combo would be attractive to employers.
ACCOUNT EXECUTIVES/PLANNERS: Determine strategies and tactics that will help the clients meet their goals. Provide succinct input to creatives re. target audience, point of difference, media. Sell the creative to the client. Budget and reconcile billings overall...creative+media+talent. An MBA with advertising undergrad works well for this.
