Another Chances Thread....yea i know, sorry

<p>Low income 20 year old latino/black male</p>

<p>Hey guys, im interested in knowing my chances for transfering into columbia at the end of the year, I'll be a first or second semester sophmore I think.</p>

GPA- 4.0 (Rank #1 of 400)
Honors Program</p>

<p>Public High School
GPA 3.8 (Rank #10 of 560)</p>

<p>Test Scores(I forgot the exact names of the sections and the sat 2 tests)</p>

<p>I took the old 1600 SATs.
Math-610 English-700
(2nd best score at my high school)</p>

<p>SAT II- Reading- 720 The grammer one- 700 Math-600</p>

<p>AP Eng 11- 4 AP English 12- 4 AP Psych- 4</p>

<p>Extracurriculars-</p>

<p>Written 2 screenplays
Captain of the JV football team
Varsity tennis
President of Games club
Psi Beta Honor Society
100 hours of community service at soup kitchen
National Honor Society
Sportswriter for newspaper at community and uconn stamford.
Had an essay published about the evolution of the american voice in literature.
Some other clubs in high school I'm probably forgetting about.
A bunch of jobs, ranging from 20 hours a week to 45.
Seminar with a film professor to learn more about screenwriting and film.</p>

<p>Interests-</p>

<p>I love writing, and I want to be a novelist. The screenplays I've written are still unsold, but im in talks with agencies to be a client. I've also done some comedy writing, but I dont preform.</p>

<p>I'm a double major in english and psychology, with a minor in philosopy. My list of schools in order of my desire to go is this.</p>

Harvard(Dont really wanna go, but my school has a secret scholarship that gives anyone who gets in a full ride)

<p>You would probably have a great chance at those schools if u were applying as a first-year, but it's so much harder for transfers. But, still I would say give it a shot! You still definitely have a good chance in my opinion.</p>

<p>Oh, but the Math SAT II is a bit low. I personally don't know what effect that would have on transfer admissions though.</p>

<p>yeah, the test scores may be an issue - they're understanding when it comes to background, but a 610 stands out as someone who really hasn't been trained to think analytically. they wouldn't want to take you and then find that you can't hack it. If you can take some sort of standardized test - maybe a math GRE or GMAT or LSAT or whatever - that shows your analytical thinking skills, that might be a big help. As would top grades in your freshman-year calculus class.</p>
