Another Confused Junior...

I know I am an excellent student but I really have no idea what kind of schools that I am capable of being accepted into. I really want to attend a small, liberal arts school in the Northeast such as Colby, Colgate, Bates, Hamilton, etc.

Can anyone do me a favor and take a look at my tentative resume and tell me if I have a reasonable chance of being accepted into schools of this caliber.

Psat: 2050 ( 680-720-650 ) and I am sure my SAT scores will be higher...

Rank: 18/395

GPA: ~4.68/5 (My school weights AP/Honors classes on a 5.0 Scale)

I take all honors/AP classes this year, and my grades are excellent so my GPA will be even higher after this year.

My ECS:
NHS, Spanish Honor Society, Thee year Varsity Basketball-hope to be captain next year, Scholar athlete, FBLA,Participated in Freshman Orientation, weekly community service at local food bank, physics club, and I volunteer at a youth basketball clinic.

I also have lived in both Antwerp, Belgium and Singapore-and have visited almost all of Western Europe. Hopefully this will provide a good application essay that will help me stand out from other applicants.

Don't be afraid to tell me I have no shot at those schools, and feel free to provide any advice that you have for me in the year to come. Also, feel free to recommend any other schools that you think would be good matches.

Thanks in advance

Your M+V PSAT scores (I take it that 680 and 720 are M and V), class rank, and grades already make you competitive at the schools you listed and your ECs are fine. Get your SATs above 2100 and get your M & V scores above 700 and you'll be very competitive.

Other schools that you might want to consider:

Connecticut College
Trinity (Hartford, CT.)
Vassar (a reach, but maybe)
Wesleyan (another reach)
Haverford
Dickinson College (as a safety)

Alright thanks alot! Its only the first half of my junior year so hopefully I can get a few extra ECs along with raising my SAT score.

I am from CT, would that have any impact on my chances of admission to any of those listed schools?

Basketball (both women and men's) is a popular sport at Wesleyan; being a native shouldn't hurt your chances if you have a coach's tip; on the contrary, some would argue that it shines the school's image locally. :)

how about my chances at a school like U of Chicago, Rice, or Vanderbilt?

U of Chicago and Rice are big reaches for you given your current SAT score. Vanderbilt is a probably a match, but no slam-dunk. To be competive at UChicago and Rice, you probably need an M+V of at least 1430. To be really competitve, above 1500.
