Another Medical School Offers Free Tuition, in a Different Way

"NYU’s School of Medicine announced that it would no longer charge tuition in late August 2018. On the other side of the country, Kaiser Permanente is preparing to open a School of Medicine that will be the third in the country to adopt some form of free tuition.

One of the nation’s largest not-for-profit healthcare systems, Kaiser Permanente’s new school will open in summer 2020 in Pasadena, Calif. According to a spokesperson, Kaiser Permanente will offer free tuition by diverting parts of its revenue previously spent on community benefits which made up $2.8 billion of its budget in 2017." …

Kaiser Permanente is only offering free tuition to its first 5 entering classes. Students entering in 2025 and later will pay an estimated annual tuition of $55,000/year.

Kaiser will be a small school with a class size of 48 students/year.
