Another Milestone: Applications Pass 26,000

I happened upon this article from the Boston College Chronicle linked on the BC homepage.

" Another Milestone: Applications Pass 26,000 "

http://www.bc.edu/bc_org/rvp/pubaf/chronicle/v14/f2/applications.html

If indeed each year has set a record for the past decade, will they be switching to Eary Decision in the coming year? They sound overwhelmed with the 19% increase in EA applicants they received this year.

Wow, that's just insane. That just makes me feel bad for not matriculating last year. =(

This is insane. But at $50 a pop, that's a nice piece of change for reading apps.
I'd like to know what schools are receiving the 20,000 apps from kids other than the Ivies.
It has to be other factors than just the baby boom crest. Perhaps common app?

Wow, im glad to have been accepted EA...

congrats! i read the article too, but i also heard they might switch to binding early decision next year ... anyone know for sure??

They should switch to early D, not only will that increase their Yield rate, but that would ease up the EA load, which i believe kills the yield. On admitted students eagle day they said they admitted 2,200ish and they expect 500 of them to enroll. Plus the EA pool are people who tend to be smarter, get the app process started early, and usually end up at superficially higher ranked schools... So EA at BC seemes like a guaranteed yield killer to me.. and MOST IMPORTANTLY you will have a set number of applicants who are accepted ED and truly want to go to BC above any other school, it's nice to have people like that in your student body.

But on the other hand you have people like me who accidentally stumble onto BC, find out they have a B-program, find out they have EA, and apply without a doubt. If it was later in the admissions process i would have thought twice...

you were accepted EA?

if you dont mind my asking, what were your stats like?

Sat in the 1300s, Carroll, top 10% class rank
