another party question

Hi everyone. I think that I will be attending UCSB next year, but there are still reservations.

I've heard in this forum that it's okay if u don't party, but realistically, what percentage of the people at UCSB don't party as much? (just so i get a clearer picture)

I am definitely the study-type, and although I love having a good time as much as everyone else, I want to meet people who are who are okay with not drinking/smoking out every weekend.

will that be harder to find at UCSB?

also, which dorms would be better for me?

any help on this would be GREATLY appreciated :-)

I think there's a special interest wing in the dorms for "scholars" that you can get into by request. That might be the ticket for you finding similarly-minded fellow students. (I wish I could interest my son in that...)

hey you--it seems that Mananita is the non-party-est of the dorms, and has the scholar's floor. The other thing is that if enough of us are asking on the forum whether or not we can avoid the crazy-partaying, there must be a somewhat sizeable contingent of us who are more interested in studying, ne? I wouldn't be way too worried.

Guys, there are no parties on Sundays to Wednesdays. Trust me on this one, majority of the students don't party regularly. As I have noticed, a lot of students go home on the weekends. Most of the students who party a lot live in IV. Also, SBCC students drive up to IV to party. That's why it's crazy out there.

I'm not claiming to be an expert because im not yet enrolled, but from my visits I get the impression that what UCSBstud is saying is true.

The actual UCSB Campus doesnt seem any more crazy as any other UC campus, just Isla Vista. The campus seems to be relaxed and people are generally dedicated to their work.

Also, you don't need to drink untill you colapse.
Have a couple of beers, drink a lot of water and you'll be in good shape to study the day after. Also, don't be out very late.

Try to find the balance between studying / partying (having a good time).
There's more to college than just studying, but I'm sure there is more in Santa Barbara than just partying ;)

UCSB stud is right. most of the out of control craziness comes from the city college kids who drive to IV to party. if you don't like drinking, don't drink. if you want to stay in an study, stay in and study. no one really forces you to party.
