Another Post on Classes (AP Chem vs. Bio vs. CalcAB)

Hello everyone, as the title implies I am debating wether to take 1 or 2 of the classes above. I would love to take AP Chem and AP calcAB. However, my mom does not want me to spend all of my HS days studying and doing homework. Can someone please give me an idea on how difficult these classes are? As much as I want to take them there is truth to what my mom is saying. I’m going to be a junior when I take 1 or 2 of them. Currently I am taking Trig/Alg2, regular Chem, and I previously took regular Bio (A’s in all).

I know that these issues vary upon the school, but which of these classes is the hardest?

Thank you for your time!

I would make an appointment with your counselor and speak to them about it. My daughter wanted to enroll in 4 AP classes and the counselor advised her to drop one (AP U.S. History). Junior year plan: AP Biology, AP Spanish, AP Language, U.S. History, Algebra Trig and AVID and off hours. She has already met her P.E., fine arts, practical arts, social studies. Senior she will take physics and statistics.

Yeah, I should probably talk to my counselor. If you mine me asking, did your daughter have much difficulty with bio? She seems pretty well versed in AP’s. I’m only taking AP macro Econ now.

She is a sophomore right now. The HS only offered her one AP in freshman year (AP Geography) and one in her sophomore year (AP Government). It isn’t until the junior year the school opens up many choices. She scored 4 on the AP exam and is earning a “B” in both classes which is weighted GPA for our HS district. Last semester she pulled off a 4.0 GPA and is working hard to keep it now. This is the first semester she received a 4.0 GPA.

Okay, thanks.

It depends on the teachers. I found Calc AB to be super easy, though a lot of other people don’t. I took Calc BC and AP Chem at the same time, and had no problem in terms of needing to overstudy. You should be able to take both.

Oh… she did take honors bio and loved it! This will be her major. My understanding is if your take AP Biology and it is your major in college, you would still have to take it again in college.

Hey @hungryteen , when you took AB what were your prerequisites? I’m only in Alg2/Trig. Although, I am in the Academic Decathlon, and I do have some general experience with calculus (not much though). If you had pre-calc then I shouldn’t expect to find my experience as easy as yours.

My school system has precalc or trig as prereqs. I took precalc, though some of my friends took trig due to scheduling errors. I’m not sure how your school does it, so you should check that out.
