OK I finished my first draft of "describing myself" essay. which is the essay #1
and I realized that although it described me, it didn't highlight something, which is the fact that I've moved around many countries
My history is pretty complicated, I moved around many places, and it's something that is pretty special about me: That I have moved around many countries, I went to many different International Schools...
So the question is, will I be able to mail additional essays to highlight my international experiences or do I have to write a completely different essay about "describing myself" that talks about international experiences, OR should I leave it the way it is

Having lived around doesn't describe me, it is one of my special characteristics but my personality was influenced from other factors

Thanks for reading, and I'm hoping some advices from you guys!

bump bump
no one???

Write about yourself.

I must be blind or something, but where did you find all the essay prompts and where do you submit them? Online I hope, but I went through their undergraduate applications page and found not even a mention of essays. I know that there’s an essay for SFS, but is there another one for just Georgetown in general? I can’t find it anywhere on the application part two. (It wasn’t hiding somewhere on the personal data form was it? Because if it was, I’m royally screwed.=/ )Also, how many teacher recommendations do we need? Just one and a counselor rec too? Sorry to be going kind of off topic, these questions are just popping up. haha. =) Thanks so much in advance! And also, an answer to the OP’s question would be much appreciated. =)

First of all, tonkgirl13, calm down. The early action deadline is over a month away, and the regular decision deadline… well that’s not even far enough for me to even see. The personal data form is exactly as its name suggests, a form for giving your personal information to Georgetown. The other form, which can be found under the link I’ve posted below, the Application Part II, contains all the questions that you would normally encounter in a college application (e.g. essays, extracurricular activities, test scores). You do need one teacher recommendation and the, in my opinion irrelevant, counselor recommendation which must be done on paper.

To the OP: We have no idea what your essay is right now. You basically said “I wrote an essay that answers the prompt but I want to say more stuff about me.” The point of the personal essay is to give you the admissions officers a picture of yourself aside from all the hard facts on your application. Does your application already highlight your numerous “international” experiences? If so, then avoid redundancy. If not, then perhaps you should rewrite your essay to focus on your cosmopolitan lifestyle. Also, I’m curious to know what your original essay’s topic is. It somewhat sounds as if you wrote an essay that literally describes you like I’m a high school student. I’m interested in going to Georgetown. I am a hard worker… etc. Of course, not in such mundane terms but still telling instead of showing.

thank you! haha. The essays were on the paper application that georgetown sent me (I think), but I couldn’t find an Upload button on the digital app. Is the essay portion just something that we’re going to have to mail in, just like the teacher and counselor recs?

@kipling, it seems that you are writing an essay that you think georgetown wants you to write instead of what YOU want to. i feel like your essay will read contrived and really not show anything about you if you go this route. write what you think shows your personality ( you in 500 words or less) and stop trying to write for the school ( in this case SFS)
