I'm planning to take classes at local cummunity college (hcc) but i wonder if taking a class there can be considered as taking AP course at my highschool...

Here are the classes i'm considering to take : Calc AB (this way i can take calc C hopefully) and Bio AP. At my highschool both AP physics and AP chem are very rigorous, so i decided to take them in my school year.
At first, i looked into the Univ. of Maryland and UMBC for summer classes, but unfortuantely i realized that they have started on 5/31... and next sessions only offer higher level of courses ( physic II, Chem II, etc.). Anyhow, my real questions are..

1) What class is equivalent to Calc AB? I have the catalog and i see "Calculus 1" , "Calculus II", and "Differential Equations". Is it "Cal 1"??

2) For the AP bio, i found "General Biology 1". Can anyone confirm that it's the class i'm looking for?

3) Would these classes such as biology provide an adequte background for SAT II/AP Exams?

You really should work this out with the guidance department of your high school. Our HS is very strict about what college classes you can substitute due to state standards and what is in the class curriculum. I know that there is no class that would count as an AP class. In fact, at our school even though some kids take College classes their senior year, they are not weighted. One thing I have learned from this board is that every school district is different and one should not take advice about a specific school situation.

Maybe i should talk to my counselor if there are any classes subtitutable for APs.... thanks Kathiep.

P.S.
But... i'm surprised to know that no classes can subtitute for APs...
well i'm not really concerned with weighted GPA but the first thing that motivated me to look into the college classes was that i had to drop AP bio in my senior year due to schedule conflicts...
I'm a transferred student from a different country and that really disadvantaged me (for instance, i "had" to take geometry while i could pull out 800 SAT math). I can't blame them though.. i hoped next year i would take "Normal classes". It looks like i have to take U.S. history with 9th graders.. (i'm rising senior by the way). That kind of thing gives me a feeling of being inferior to others..

"no classes can subtitute for APs..." --I am not sure, what you mean by that.

If you are looking for AP credit in college, you can just take the AP exam in the spring. For the credit it does not matter which class you took, only the AP score. If you need the classes for HS credit, you have to talk to your GC and see if you can get credit for the college classes. They probably will not call them "AP" on the transcript, but it does not really matter.

ahhh... you're right, only AP tests matter.
well then i have to change my questions a little bit..

1) Is the material taught in Calculus 1 at community college similar to that in Calc AB offered by Highschool??
2) Is the material taught in General Biology at community somewhat similar to the contents tested in AP exams??
Please Ignore my 3rd question i originally posted...
I'm definitely going to study prior to any SAT IIs/APs but without any background knowledge i doubt i can suceed.

3) I'm going to ask my counselor about this, but has anyone heard of people taking a Calculus class at local college to skip Calc AB?? ( I received 740 on SAT II MATH II which i'm going to retake on October, that at least makes me think that i'm not dumb at math)

Thanks in advance, i know this may depend on the policies of my high school but listening to others' experiences or opinions would certainly help me.
