Another status update on the Portal website!

Hi all! As I check the portal page quite a few times a day to see any changes I spotted this status update and it is great news!

Congratulations, you are officially admitted to Cal Poly! Information regarding registration can be found at the new student registration information and instructions page. Registration and Instructions

Have a nice day all!

FINALLY!

such a relief for some reason :)

yay  me too!!!

Another quick update:

The portal site has added the following new tabs: Main, ASI, Library Services, and Technology. My full name, phone number, and the @calpoly.edu email address is finally on the student directory. If anyone is concerned with your privacy you can go to the portal and hide your phone number, etc!

So excited to see all the updates to roll in!

i got the congratulations update but didnt get any of the new tabs in the portal

anyone else?

They didn’t happen simultaneously - wait a day and you should see them.

Congrats to those of you just finding out you got in to CAL POLY! My daughter will be a freshman there, so we are wondering why you are getting such late acceptances. Were you wait listed?

I was notified in mid-February about admissions offered because I am a transfer student from another University, so I have to apply for regular admission. The congratulatory message on the first post was Cal Poly’s way of saying they have verified all my official documents and is officially a student there.

Did your daughter applied for Early Decision for freshmen, if yes, that was probably why she was notified in January.

She applied regular decision, but SLO was her first choice, so we were really happy when she heard from them first. Best wishes for much success there! It’s a wonderful place. My other daughter will be a Sophomore at UC Davis, so the rivalry begins!

That’s great news! Congratulations to your daughter for getting into her first choice as well. I am actually transferring form UC Davis, as a senior transfer, to Cal Poly! =)

Out of curiosity, what prompted you to transfer to Cal Poly as a senior? Had you been thinking about it earlier on? My daughter had been accepted to UC Davis, but felt Cal Poly was a better fit for her. Sounds like you feel the same way, too! :)

I am actually transferring form UC Davis, as a senior transfer, to Cal Poly! =)

Hi 2Leashes. I am transferring for many, many reasons:

First, I do not feel that I am learning anything from UC Davis at all besides reading the textbook all day long and using formulas to solve textbook problems. I am an EE major, and I feel that the lack of a lab requirement to most of the upper division core and technical classes is unacceptable. The more absurd thing was that most professors that I have taken there recycled their homeworks, exams, and final exams from previous years meaning that they literally took the stuffs from before, do some minor modifications to it and called it a new exam.

Secondly, the opportunities that are opened to Cal Poly graduates. Most of my friends who attended Davis because they were chasing the UC title and graduated before I did are still unemployed as of late. When I asked them were they even given a chance for an interview, they said they didn’t hear anything from the companies that they applied to, let alone a scheduled interview. Now they are off to grad school at a CSU (how ironic).

Third, the hands-on lab requirement at CSUs and especially Cal Poly is superior. My uncle has been working in the EE industry for more than 15 years and is one of the persons who decide who to hire for his department. He explicitly told me that the first thing he looks for when people applying to his department is not the GPA and not the emphasis/concentration, but their school. His said the hiring committee’s top choice for hiring engineers for his company are from: Berkeley, Stanford, Cal Poly, and SJSU. I asked him why he simply responded, “because they’re ready for work on the first day.”

Lastly, CP’s been my top choice since high school, and I just really want to study there!

^^ It sounds like you made a well-thought out choice, smallpotato! I congratulate you on your transfer and I know you’ll get the hands-on education you’ve been craving! And, best wishes in the future for a satisfying and hopefully, lucrative career. :)

smallpotato^ Thanks for the honest response about your experience at Davis. My son also got in there and chose Cal Poly instead for the very reasons you are transferring. He wants the hands-on experience and the connections to the job market. I think he made a great choice!

I’m glad you are getting to attend Cal Poly!

Thanks 2Leashes and momofmv for the encouragements! I will definitely enjoy CP much more than the UC’s way of theoretical teachings. Best wishes to yours as well!

You’re welcome and thanks for the best wishes!

And, you’ll be closer to the beach. Not to mention the climate won’t be as extreme. Best wishes to you, smallpotato.
