Another "Which One" Thread (Middlebury vs. Hamilton)

Ok, I'm an average asian guy with mediocre grades (by CC standards). I didn't think I'd get into any of the liberal arts schools I applied to (Wesleyan, Midd, Ham, and Colgate), but I got into Hamilton and Middlebury (***...Midd? With 1340/1600 SATs and a terrible essay?).

Anyway, Im getting 19k to go to Hamilton and 24k to go to Midd.

It seems like a no brainer...Midd is better overall and Im getting more dough...but Ham is much closer to home and I had my heart set on it since I never expected to get into Midd anyways.

Im planning to major in chemistry and minor in music.

Any opinions?

I was faced with the same choice some time ago. At that time the quoted SAT scores of the schools were the same, and Middlebury has pulled ahead in admissions competition since then. At that time freshman housing was better at Hamilton and that was important to me, so I chose it. The one thing that separates Hamilton from some other similar schools is that next to no students live off campus. You end up making new friends in the dorms all four years, rather than finding a clique and moving off campus with them as juniors, or whatever. The two schools are very similar. Your life's path, in terms of graduate school or career, will not really be impacted by which of these two schools you choose.
