If you do not mind answering my question, just wondering what your GPA and SAT scores were coming out of high school. I went to visit the Pharm School at Rutgers on Saturday and took the tour and fell in love with it. I have a 4.4 GPA as a Junior and waiting for SAT scores. I play sports and am very active. I am worried about not getting in though. I’m 10th in my class out of 323 and play football and hockey, also student president for all of high school.
Thanks,

Sorry Lurker, just saw the above post haha

I have another question though for anyone currently in the program…
I know its actually one of the top 20 in the country, but how do you feel the program is coursewise and professor wise

Lurker,

just out of curiosity, what year are you in? i’m wondering if skipping out on bio will definitely come back to haunt me in systems physiology…

Lurker,

I applied to the New Brunswick Pharmacy program this year, but got waitlisted for it. Instead, I got a letter from Rutgers Camden saying that I was accepted to their College of Arts and Sciences where I would do pre-pharmacy there for two years (as a 2+4 program) and then would have to apply or transfer into the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy. It says that the pre-reqs for transferring to Ernest Mario are passing through an interview, maintaining GPA, and they recommend taking the PCAT.

I have several questions regarding this, I’m still confused as to the difference between the Camden and New Brunswick situation, like is it the same thing except I would be in Camden for the first two years, or is it more different than that? Also, those who go to New Brunswick straight from high school, how many are accepted and pass through the interview after 2 years? And finally, would you suggest taking the Camden route as opposed to just going to another school like USP and going through their 0-6 program.

Thank you! Sorry for so many questions, I’m just so confused right now.

Hello Lurker, I really appreciate it that you are taking time off to answer our questions. I am currently a student at Middlesex County College. The questions that I have are: will RU Pharmacy accept course credits completed during summer semester and not a regular semester such as Fall or Spring?

I heard that RU does not accept any Math courses taken during Summer; is that true?

Also, I have been told that the RU pharmacy program is extremely tough to get into as a transfer student. Would you tell me the GPA requirements?

Thank you very much once again.

hey lurker,

could you possibly tell me roughly if these stats would be good enough to get into the pharm program.

sats 1950
act 30 (should i send in both?)
class rank top 5% around 13ish i suppose out of about 700
sats IIs: bio, math 1, math 2 around 600-650 for all 3

aps: ush1, psych
these are the ones i took my sr year (b.c my school doesnt offer these prior sr yr)
eng, calc, bio, art his, stats, french

my ap tests range from 2-5. the 2 is in french.

im instate for rutgers. i have great ext. curr.- var xc/track, captain for both
prez french club
engineering club and lot of more clubs

all 4 yrs. community service and experience in pharmacy retail work and lab work. i also have good recomm, im writing the essay, and mb a personal statement. is that too over the top???

please let me know. also, i have a prob b/c of lack of that many ap classes earlier (my school only lets you take like 2-3), my class rank is only like 13th. my school calculates final class rank after 1st mp of sr year where all of my aps would boost my class rank. can i update this info to rutgers before they accept/reject me?

Hey lurker I have a question.

Yesterday I got my acceptance letter from Rutgers Ernesto Mario School of Pharmacy. Is this the six year pharm.D. program? I am a little confused because I found out so early, I thought I was going to find out in February?

Yes it is, congratulations.

any ideas on those stats. oh and should i not take those subject tests b/c i heard that rutgers doesnt care about them?

you have as good of a chance as anyone, i’m sure. they look at course rigor, gpa, and SAT scores. SAT score average was low 1400/1600’s i believe.

and i would take sat ii’s if you are interested in applying to other colleges at all …

Luker, I really hope you are still answering questions! I was just wandering whether or not I could make it into the program. I am a junior in high school. I have not taken the SAT’s yet. However, I took the PSAT’s in September, and I got a 1490. I took a practise SAT in November, and I got a 1620. Both of those times I did not take any prep courses, but I am going to start taking some in January. I have a 3.7 weighted GPA. I have a 3.6 unweighted GPA. Freshman and sophomore year I took all accelerated classes(sadly). Now, I am taking honors Physics and honors English. I barely have any community service hours. I have been involved with tennis at my school for 3 years. I am in key club. My senior year I want to try to take some AP classes like chem or bio.

I really want to go to Rutgers for pharmacy. I have never wanted anything more in my life!

GPA (and by extension class rank)
SAT I Scores
Class Rigor (Science AP Classes)

are the most important factors for admission. Typically students are in the top 10-15% (atleast), have a 1400/1600 GPA, and have taken numerous AP classes.

when you say course rigor… do they look at how much languages you took?
and do they really not care about SAT 2’s?

“have a 1400/1600”… when you say that… does it mean that rutgers doesn’t count writing for admissions?
i hope so cause writing is my worst section :P

thanks in advance!

I got accepted to Earnest w. a 4.38 GPA (weighted) , a 32 ACT (35 Science, 32 Math), CR: 10/332, and many EC’s. Just incase anybody wanted to try and compare

They didn’t count the writing section when I was accepted (I think they didn’t anyways; most schools didn’t at the time), but I believe they do so now. Sorry! :P

Hi Lurker, Could you tell me the retention rate for Pharmacy students from the freshman year to the third year(P1), and to graduation (P4) approximately? Thanks.

there is a pretty high drop out rate from pp1 - p1 (first 2 years). after that they accept transfer students and the drop out rate is much lower.

compare facebook groups

rutgers 2015: 240 [pp1]
rutgers 2014: 201 [pp2]
rutgers 2013: 196 [p1] [including accepted transfer students]
rutgers 2012: 153 [p2]

not perfect since not everybody has facebook or is in the group, but there was definitely a large number of people that dropped out of my class in freshman/sophomore years.

Thanks a lot Lurker, I have searched web a while and couldn’t find the answer. This information can definitely clear up my mind.

Do u by any chance know the lowest expectations where the Mario school will accept somebody? meaning SAT scores, class rankings, etc.
