Well are YOU 15 years old?
Are you a senior in high school? Or anything equivalent to it?

@sophieudochi As I understand you’re not a senior yet. You’re not going to get accepted. Or am I wrong?
im 13…but ill be 15 in my senior year
im not applying now…i just want to know more about the admission process…so that i can get prepared
If you’re 15 when you’re a senior tour best bet is to go to high school with early college. 15&16year olds a will not be accepted into dorms, living on their own.
I want to major in physics. And I am searching for safety college who give full financial aid (My family income is less than 10.000$). Could you please guys suggest some colleges?
You can create separate thread about it, but okay…what are your stats?
Less than 10k income will be extremely harmful in term of admission
@paul2752 :
I am an international student. The American dollar is x2 my local currency.
SAT +2000
SAT II Physics and Math +750
What’s the problem with my family income? I think that U.S. Universities give generous aid for those who are in need.
What do you think? I am worried. Please help.
@Dawn001, this thread will summarizes the options:
But you need to understand that US universities are NOT charities: they do NOT give generous aid for “those in need”- they give generous aid for those in need who they want. That usually means you either have very high test scores and/or are an extremely high achiever.
I know that they are not charities that’s why I listed my SAT score that are at least good. Some colleges give need-base scholarship, as I think.
Most colleges are need aware. It means that between two applicants they’ll choose the one with the smallest financial need.
$10’000 may be a decent income in your country - it is in most of the world- but in the us it isn’t; you qualify for fee waivers at least through the common app but it means you don’t have enough for the full tuition s scholarships and will need a full ride and those rare. The minimal threshold for full rides tend a to be sat 2100 so that’s what you need. it’s also the minimum for the sickness blind schools. What area of t he world or country are you from? As this also plays a role. Apply asap to Howard since you should qualify for a full ride but they are first come first served and they run out quickly.
Actually I am from north Africa (Tunisia) and I am pretty confident that I will score more than 2100 in November SAT.Also, I think that I can score 800 in SAT II Physics as 2nd try in December. I need full scholarship badly. I am ready to pay 10% or 5% with a job (Can you tell me how) because my family income is exactly $8000 at best and my parents can’t afford the costs.
@Dawn001: you need to apply to Berea then.
Add Smith (although, coming from Tunisia, it may be a huge cultural shock, they’re very strong for physics and engineering AND have excellent financial aid) as well as Scripps, Mount Holyoke, Barnard, and Bryn Mawr.
In addition to Physics, take the French subject test, since SO MANY internationals have science and math SAT Subjects it’s hard to distinguish them based on this. Being a girl from North Africa will help (especially if you can provide context, since being a girl in a country that’s been racked by Islamist terrorists and has had the -insofar- only successful transition to democracy is bound to be challenging for you, and thus interesting to the colleges.)
You’ll likely be given an on-campus job as part of financial aid, but that will only cover your day-to-day expenses. You’re not allowed to work off campus at all.
You could also apply ED to Amherst, since they’re need-blind. Have you won any national award/prize/competition? Are you in a “pioneer” school? This is what it takes to have a shot at Amherst.

Look at the automatic and competitive full ride scholarships in the financial aid forum.
Thank you very much for help !!!
Actually, I am a boy from Tunisia and I worked for Red Crecent in the south refugee camps after 2011 Tunisian Revolution. And yes, I was in pioneer school for 6 years but how can I indicate this in Common App? Through essays or what? Also,I have no problem with French I can take it easily since I’ve been learning it for 10 years but my problem is TIME ! I registered in November SAT I so my only possibility is to take French Subject Test along with Physics in one day (December). So ED will be impossible for me. What do you think?
Could you take the October SAT and/or ACT and November Subject tests, leaving December for a retest in either SAT or ACT (or both, the dates aren’t the same)?
Hi, I’m an international student now studying in an international private high school in Memphis. I’m a junior, I came here last year as a sophomore which means I’m going to spend 3 years in the US high school. Do I still count as an international student when I applying to college? And My GPA is about 4.3 to 4.6(weighted), ACT is about 26, is there a big chance to get into UCLA? I’m a IB full diploma student with 4 HLs. And I do lots of things outside school too, like club president, 40+ volunteer hours, Basketball team, host of Chinese New Year festival…
ACT is too low, and you will get NO financial aid whatsoever. You may get regent scholarship, but that’s only about 5k ONCE. Also, you need to go to UC website and recalculate your GPA.
Depends on visa, but if you are on visa like F-1, you are an international student. You can make your own thread about chance by the way
How is your GPA so high & your ACT so low?
As paul2752 says, it’s your residency status, not where you do high school that determines if you are classed as an international student.
How much emphasis do they put on the TOEFL?
I took the SAT and got 610, 620 (10 essay) on the reading and writing sections respectively.
The ACT turned out to be much more fitting for me, I got a 35 in English, 32 in Reading and 11(34) on the essay.
I am currently debating on whether to take it once more in hopes of improving my reading score, but all the counsellors/teachers at my school are advising against it since I got a nearly perfect score on the TOEFL (missed one on reading and listening).
I am afraid as a lot of internationals (Asians) have near perfect standardised test scores. Will colleges look at TOEFL scores and assume that my reading score is good enough?
Thank you!
@leoursa: Your act is excellent. Toefl is only used to check that your English is good enough and it clearly is. You’re done with testing - now, your admission will rest on you essays, EC s, and luck.
@MarkTCC : your act is fine but not for the most prestigious colleges. You can also apply to some test-optional colleges. Finally, are you going to be full pay? This would be a very important element in deciding where you can apply.
Assuming you are full pay:
If you like the LA area, look into Chapman, LMU, Occidental.
If you like the UCs, look into UCSc, UCSB, UCI, UCD.
Your application will be considered alongside those from Tennessee OR alongside those of internationals in us schools (much less competitive than the Asian in Asia pool ). If you don’t need financial aid, that’s it. If you do, then the biggest hurdle is next and you’ll need to apply to a different set of schools than these.
