Toefl and improving test scores for international student

Hi,
I'm an international student applying to several colleges in the US (MIT, Caltech, Stanford and several others).
Today i received my sat scores. I got 2230 (770 CR, 770 math and 690 writing). The schools I'm applying to dont require taking the toefl test, they only recormmend it. I was wondering if you think i should take the test or not? Do you think not taking the test puts me at a disadvantage compared to other international candidates?
If my sat 2 scores are 800 at math 2 and 770 at physics, do you think i should try to improve any of my test scores? (sat 1 or sat 2) Or the small improvement i can make isnt worth the effort and instead I should concentrate on my application essays?

Thank you very much for your help!

You are good to go if the university is not asking for tofel. You have almost perfect t score on subjects test so there is no point to take them again.

There’s no point in retaking those tests. Focus on your essays now. :)

You may want to take the TOEFL just in case you want to apply to other schools that require the score. Sometimes I found that schools may say that they don’t require the TOEFL but on the Common App and for UC schools, international applicants do need to submit TOEFL scores.

Got it. I’ll try to do it after finishing the essays. Thanks!
