I am a Nutritional Science major and HumEc has pre-enrolled me in three classes and I will be enrolling in the rest on 7/20.

Currently I have:

BIOG 1101
BIOG 1103
CHEM 2070
NS 1150

I was planning on adding PE, Calc 1 and then a tutorial class for Math and a tutorial class for the NS 1150. I may not need the tutorial classes but figured I could drop them if I didn’t and Math is my weakest subject.

Anyway, I know I have read many times that it is recommended not to take more than 15 credits first semester and I have 18. But since 3 of them come from PE and the tutorials it should be no big deal, right?

also, I am not signing up for FWS first semester because I have AP credit for that.

It sounds like you know what you’re doing. Your classes sound good and you are right about dropping the tutorials if need be. If worse comes to worst you can also always take PE if you feel as though you need more free time. While it is recommended to take PE freshman year, it can always be done later.

…and no FWS. Sounds good to me! Just try to get it done next semester. You don’t want to be a senior that still has to get that out of they way.

yes, I definately plan to take FWS next semester along with my BIO, CHEM and probably PAM 2100 and pe. That will be 16 credits, but I think I will be used to things by then and it shouldn’t be a big deal. Just really want to get my Math done and out of the way before too much time passes and I completely forget it all.

When are we able to apply for internal and external transfers? I’m in CALS as a info sci major and may want to transfer to CAS Econ or AEM. Can you apply for transfer after only 1 semester or do you have to wait a school year? Thanks.

I am not exactly sure what the rules are about tranfering in CALS. Check with advising and they should be able to help you. If you are thinking about tranfering into AEM that can be somewhat difficult since it is very popular. Speak with your advisor as soon as you can about classes that would help you make transfering a bit easier and get you prepared.

Yes. You want to do the online enrollement as soon as you can. If classes start filling up you might not get what you want.

I’m still a little bit unsure of classes i want to take and what ap credit to use to place out of some intro classes. Tomorrow they will allow pre-enrollment and i have no idea what classes to enroll in (i know all my major requirements and prereqs). I’m just not entirely sure on what to sign up for (ie. physics or chemistry) and i’m still seeking advice on what classes i want to place out of.
Is it harmful if i wait until i see my advisor in august and have no pre-enrolled classes?
Just in case it helps, I’m a biology and society major at CALS.
Thanks

I would just pre-enroll in classes you think you might be interested in. If you don’t have anything in august you might get closed out of things. You also might get stuck with classes at times you don’t want. Just sign up for classes you think you might want. You will have time to change it if need be after to talk with your advisor.

I need to learn Japanese, but I’m already overloading so I don’t have time to take classes. Will I be able to audit? Will I miss a lot if I am not able to participate in discussion classes?

thanks ambassador, i have another question. If i have a credit card, is there any reason to get a CornellCard as well? Any unique benefits of the CornellCard that i should be aware of?

hey thanks for all the help, I was just wondering if you thought 6 academic classes might be a bit too much for me take as an incoming freshman?

hey,
I was wondering about the bed lofts…do you know how much Cornell charges if one orders for a bed loft in her room? also, would one recommend the bed loft?

First, you can’t always sit in on classes to audit so you have to check about that. I would say if it is really that important for you to learn the language you should take the class. Normally langauges meet several times a week to practice speaking, listening, etc. If you are not in the class you will miss out on some of this. Plus, you need time outside the class to learn vocabulary and such. Try taking it now or try for next semester. If you can audit the class, you would have to be the type of person that can really push yourself to learn on your own. If already have a lot of classes this isn’t going to be easy.

It doesn’t cost any money to have the CornellCard so I would say it’s good to have. I used it when I had to pick up something and didn’t have any cash on me. It’s basically just like any other credit card except it’s part of your student id.

It really depends more on how many credits you are taking rather than how many classes. If you have 6 classes and they are only 2 credit classes then your fine. If these 6 classes are 4 credits each you are nuts. Shoot for taking around 15 credits. That is noramally what is a good amount for first semester of freshman year. :-)

It doesn’t cost any money to have cornell loft the bed for you. If you would like to keep stuff underneath the bed it’s a good idea to have it higher.

Hey, I don’t know how much you will be able to help me with this, but I will see. I am currently in CAS, but am considering a transfer to AEM (I realize it is quite difficult). My current schedule is Intro to Micro, Calc 1, Marketing, Green world/Blue Planet, FWS, and gym. However, I am trying to decide between these three combos: Calc 1/Marketing (current), Calc 1/Intro to Stat, Intro to Stat/Marketing. Have you heard anything about the difficulty of those classes, especially Marketing? Which combo do you think would give me the best edge for applying to AEM in terms of difficulty/looks? Thanks.

heyy is 18 credits too much (including PE) for first semester? because i’ve only chosen the required courses for the college and engineering and its already 18 :(

also, and interesting topics for FWS that you’ve taken or heard of?

hi, i have 16 credits schdule for bio major, but i also really want to take korean, which is 6 more credits, will 22 be manageable? are language classes a lot of work? thanks

My son, who got a 5 on AB calculus AP, is currently signed up for Math 1110 (calc 1) but he’s decided that 1120 makes more sense. As of now, there is just one spot left – 8 AM, which he’s not wild about. Is it better to wait to see if he can make switch later in signup period or when he gets on campus? Or does he risk getting totally shut out of 1120? He’s out of town for the whole summer with no access to internet so I am signing him up for classes as per his instructions. And it’s complicated to communicate with him.
