obviously, i would rather go to harvard than berkeley or reed or williams

<p>Not necessarily. Prestige is an artificial concept that has no inherent value. </p>
<p>Many other factors must be accounted for when choosing a school. For example, if you were trying to go into Engineering, a Berkeley education would be of far greater value than that of Harvard’s. However, there are other considerations, such as location, urbanity, financial aid, personal feel of the college, and etc. </p>
<p>Well… I picked Yale over Berkeley I guess. But then again. I hated Berkeley’s area(would have rather picked UCLA), and most importantly, Berkeley’s financial aid offer didn’t even come close to Yale’s.</p>
<p>i wrote an 8 page research essay on why prestige doesn’t matter…but felt pretty guilty the whole time i was writing it.
it really does matter to an extent, but idealistically (which i guess is what CCers are aiming for), it doesn’t and shouldn’t matter.</p>
<p>there are a lot of people on here that hate the cliched stereotype of this website without realizing that they are the people that mostly populate it.</p>
<p>Life is about happiness, not about getting as far and high up as you can. For some people, going to the most prestigious places (although I draw the line at ‘prestigious country club,’ something I’ve heard said seriously in ‘chances’ threads) genuinely makes them happy, rising to the upper echelons of society and business and joining the wealthy elite is a proper life pursuit. Others enjoy simpler or simply less public lives and would be happier working as a carpenter or a fisherman than as a hedge fund manager or investment banker or doctor.</p>
