I agree...the junioritis thing is non-existant. If you're slacking off then, trust me, by senior year...

And yes, I've definitely got senioritis even though I do find myself trying harder in AP Euro...I think it's because now I only have four real classes instead of six, plus two study halls now, so I get more work done in school (which is when and where I believe work should be done), so it's making it a lot easier. I do find myself not doing homework during study hall and knitting or reading though...

I have been doing a lot lot more work in the last 3-4 weeks than I have ever done before. I am focusing on getting as much college credit as I possibly can. In English, I basically gave up because it wont do me any good in college. But I have read a stats book (800 pages) and then did a lot of the examples, took 3 barrons practice tests, and now talk to my stats teacher about spaces and gamma functions. I have been reading everything I can about physics so I can pass the C, and because it is interesting. In calc, I stopped doing my homework and have been doing the stuff we arent covering. Its just as well, the class is very boring, so I just open a discrete math book and pretend its my calc book, which I lost earlier this year.
In school, I am slacking, but really I am not. I never use to spend so much time reading, but I figure that it is worth it. I have kept my rank this year, and I expect to keep it for the next 10 weeks, after that, everything is over. There is still technically half a quarter, but those grades dont count at all. I also tried to slack off, but I felt like I was wasting my time.

My school doesn't choose the valedictorian by rank. They have this weird system where they take your unweighted GPA and add points to it according to how many honors courses you've taken. Apparently the reasoning is that that way you won't be punished for taking non-academic courses or non honors courses, which bring down your weighted GPA. But that means you can be ranked 1st and not be valedictorian. One year, our valedictorian was ranked 8th. So we have know way of knowing who will be valedictorian.

I'm currently ranked 3 or 4, but I don't have a chance for valedictorian or salutatorian, even though I have straight A's. I just didn't take as many honors courses as others.

I got senioritis when I was a sophomore, Weird?? I basically hanged out with all seniors, went to senior prom... Now, I'm feeling this way again as a junior. there's something about spring. I guess when springs come, when the flowers starts to bloom, when the birds are singing, when the days get longer, and when the sky get bluer, I can't help myself to stay home and study.

I have seen little with senioritis-most people in my AP classes were deferred, so they are still working to attempt to get better grades in hopes of an acceptance. There are a few who have been accepted, and they nearly refuse to do any work-one shows up to class twenty minutes late every day, without books or writing utensils, and cares little. (Student was accepted to Northwestern.)

I'm currently rank 1/390 and I really don't care about losing it due to senioritis. The other people in the top 10+ have worked just as hard as I have, and I wouldn't feel bad at all if I graduated without the top spot.

That said, perhaps getting into my first choice college EA helped. I don't even have to worry much about APs, since the college only gives sparce AP credit.

One kid last year got accepted to top 50 college and then he stopped doing everything. He randomly left classes, left school, came in late. He got a 35 in Ap Chem 3rd quarter and similiar to that in AP calc. He still got his free ride. He almost failed off NHS.

Reeze, I don't yet feel "ENERGIZED," but I am beginning to attempt to get some semblance of "energy" for second semester, and for me that's a HUGE leap. I haven't necessarily been slacking off- i think I would freak if I didn't get an A in one of my classes (even though i was accepted ED)- but it has been very very very hard for me to pay attention, do hw, etc. But, i am trying to get into the swing of things again because if I want to get AP credit in college I need to get all 5s.

Good luck

Even if I don't feel "energized", I know that I have a ton of work to be done in the next few months preparing for IB exams. I still have most of the internal/external assessment stuff to complete, and that scares me into working hard. Once May is over though, I have graduation on June 3rd and then a month of diploma exam prep. Diplomas are going to be nothing compared to IB exams though, so after May 19 (chem paper 3), I am pretty much done for the year. Only... 104 days to go!
