So as well all know, decisions come out this Thursday! First off all, ahh! Secondly, I am actually extremely nervous even though I don't believe I have a shot in the world of getting in...

So my question to you guys all waiting for decisions is how nervous are you? and why are you nervous?

I’m terribly nervous too x) but I think it’s natural, even though I don’t realistically have a shot either. If you want something really badly, you’re going to be nervous no matter how often you tell yourself not to be.

Still, to everyone reading this, follow my hypocritical advice and don’t stress! I haven’t posted much because I’ve been shy, but from reading all your posts you sound like truly brilliant and wonderful individuals, and I know you’ll succeed anywhere.

I want an acceptance Thursday so badly just so I can not have to worry about college admissions at all ever again and can completely enjoy the rest of my senior year.

I personally feel like I have a decent chance of getting in, but the more I see decisions threads and talk to people who have been through this, the more I realize how random decisions are and how much luck is a factor.

Still I feel like even if I do get lucky and am eventually accepted it will only be in the second round.

But I guess it could be a good thing to finally get a deferred letter Thursday, then I might get some motivation to work on other apps. Have hardly worked on any other apps because of that sub-conscious feeling that I might actually be accepted.

While its fun dreaming around in limbo, I really just want this period to end. These are gunna be four long days

→ "Well, you are about to start the greatest improvisation of all. With no script. No idea what’s going to happen, often with people and places you have never seen before. And you are not in control. So say “yes.” And if you’re lucky, you’ll find people who will say “yes” back. Now will saying “yes” get you in trouble at times? Will saying “yes” lead you to doing some foolish things? Yes it will. But don’t be afraid to be a fool. Remember, you cannot be both young and wise. Young people who pretend to be wise to the ways of the world are mostly just cynics. Cynicism masquerades as wisdom, but it is the farthest thing from it. Because cynics don’t learn anything. Because cynicism is a self-imposed blindness, a rejection of the world because we are afraid it will hurt us or disappoint us. Cynics always say no. But saying “yes” begins things. Saying “yes” is how things grow. Saying “yes” leads to knowledge. “Yes” is for young people. So for as long as you have the strength to, say “yes.”
And that’s The Word.”
-Stephen Colbert

→ “Picasso, Stravinsky, and Eliot were once thought ugly, and before them, Monet, Mahler, and Baudelaire.”
-Stephen Fry

→ “Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes… the ones who see things differently — they’re not fond of rules… You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can’t do is ignore them because they change things… they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.”
-Steve Jobs

I feel exactly the same!!! At the very beginning I was like I’m zoo nervous. Then I was like I have a shot. Then I was like im gonna get accepted. But now I’m like oh no!!! All over again! I really want an acceptance because then I won’t have to work on too much apps. But if I don’t… It’s gonna be a stressful Christmas

I’m actually less nervous than I thought I would be at this time. I’ve realized that even if I’m not accepted, I’ll still have a lot of other great options for college. Still, not having to do any more application essays would be a nice Christmas present :)

^Their art/music was considered ugly because it was so radically different from the style of the time. We take it for granted now and most of us consider it beautiful, but you have to keep context in mind :3

@pylades I also want to thank you for the quotes - they’re very inspirational.

I agree. At this point, its not even going to Harvard that I want, its knowing that I’ve gotten into a college and can start relaxing!!! I have a general question for everyone. Last summer I worked for my Congressman in D.C. for 9 weeks. Its usually an undergrad position and I got him to write me a recommendation letter. Do you think a letter from a U.S. Representative will have much weight at Harvard???

Don’t worry guys, only a few more days left. We got our decisions last Thursday, and I can personally tell you keeping your mind off of Thursday is the best thing for you (and it makes the ecstasy of an acceptance letter much more joyful).

Also, screw the previous decision threads. They only scared me and now I’m going to go to the school of my dreams.

I agree. Stravinsky’s music is pretty unpleasing to the ears. I love Firebird but that’s about it. Russians in general, however, write the best music in my opinion.
