Yes, I have read other forum topics concerning length of essay, but none of them related much to my situation directly.
So, I have a really weird and interesting essay topic. My essay also has visual aids which needed explanation. My essay is currently 950 words- but when I cut it down in 20 minutes, I got it down to 850.
Sadly, I already submitted my essay to the common app (950 word length), and it won't let me change it.

So, I guess what I'm saying is, will this length kill me? I love my essay, though there is a bit of fluff (clever/witty things that aren't REALLY necessary). Will the AdComs stop reading it because of this bit of fluff? Will this fluffy stuff in an otherwise pretty good essay heavily factor into my future college acceptance/denial? Am I totally overreacting?

You’re going to have to remind me of the word limit for CommonApp, but in all honesty, exceeding the limit won’t kill you as long as it’s not like over by 300 words. The “fluff” is actually a good way of showcasing your personality and building your character, so that the readers get a good sense of who you are. So I would say, take a deep breath, and relax. There is nothing to worry about, and if you feel confident about your essay, then I’m positive it’ll also leave a good impression on the readers.
