In wandering around CC- I recommend staying in the MT and theater forums (if you have any interest in both programs- lots of us journey back and forth between the two.) I would recommend staying away for some of the more general boards- those people are on a different journey (not that there is anything wrong with that) and reading about all the STEM and Ivy obsession stresses ME out. And of course it make me laugh too… After all, ivies have nearly triple the admit rates of many Bfa programs…
@toowonderful - I feel like I’ve wandered out of a nature preserve when I start following threads in other parts of the forum. There are all manner of prickly poisonous plants, bottomless pits, quicksand and “rodents of unusual size” out beyond MT/Acting land. Much nicer here with the rainbows and unicorns.
@mom4bwayboy- I completely agree! Particularly like the ROUS!
@theaterwork Yes! We are planning on going to SETC. We are in Alabama, so SETC is actually the “next step” in our state theater competition. Last year a local high school (not my D’s) represented our state after winning the state competition. We won’t be going with a school, but will be going on our own. We will have to do some planning when it gets closer to that time and connect! @mom4bwayboy and @toowonderful The Princess Bride references are fantastic :)) !
yes @brightstaral we should definitely connect at SETC! I will try to remember to keep checking this forum btwn now & March. and Yes @toowonderful I am not really reading other threads on CC because they are foreign to me LOL. I thought I might find some general college info on them but really we get that from my D’s school anyway and there are some crazy science /math people on there that I cannot relate too!
I know a lot of rising seniors who just attended the Thespian Festival in Lincoln, NE put on by the EDTA ( the association for the International Thespian Society). Many schools attend, and you present monologues and /or songs for several schools at once. Schools can then call back students that they are interested in or even offer them a position on the spot. I know several kids now entering the Senior year application / audition process with offers from schools like CCM and DePaul. Takes a lot of pressure off!
