I rarely read outside of required assignments (I don't detest it, just prefer other things like Halo 2), and I got a 760 on the verbal. My previous verbal scores over the past year were 640, 690, and then the 760 <<< and i hardly read a thing.

I hardly ever read books, though I enjoy reading them on certain occasions (like three days on a train...). I also do a ton of reading online every day and of course read magazines and such. 760 verbal.

well... like redbarn i do write quite a bit too, so that probably helped. while i don't read books a lot, i do find that i get a lot out of what i do read, which are mostly science articles and newspapers.

I wouldn't say I detest books, but with all the school work recently I havn't had time to read for fun. I've read about two books for fun in the past three years. I got a 790.

Ephemeral? Sure, maybe the junk-food books like [insert most top-sellers here] but definitely not books that deal with substantive issues instead of merely relating a story. How can you say that books like Moby Dick, One Hundred Years of Solitude, War and Peace, [insert most classics here] are anything but perennial?

By the way, I like books (even the junk-food ones) and I have an 800 verbal. :D

For the most part, I hate books, except for a precious few. Its sad, but it seems like I only enjoy books that are supposedly popular these days. I have a 750 btw.

Hate is a very strong word. Books have done the world a lot of good.

I enjoy reading when I have the time, but these days I usually don't. My favorite books, admittedly, are straightforward and easy to read. I don't like constantly analyzing and looking for symbolism that the author probably didn't even intend to put in.

Yeah, I agree with aim. No offense by the words "ephemeral" but I am sick of over analyzing Shakespeare and the like. Maybe if I was better at it I would like it. Congrats on your 800 slipstream

In the past 3 calendar years ive probably read about 3 fiction books in thier entirety, (Anthem, Of Mice and Men, A Raisin in the Sun) The only nonfiction book ive read is a collection of essays and speeches by Martin Luther King. I've read about half of Scarlet Letter, Hamlet, Lord of the Flies, and Great Gatsby. With that being said I got an 800 verbal. Probably, because i love etymology so much which is ironic becuase i dont actually like reading that much.

I used to hate reading. Then I realized that not all reading has to be boring books where you spend hours analyzing them. Now I really enjoy reading and try to find the time to read more. Just find books that interest you and you'll start to enjoy it. It really helped to start reading for fun. Junior year PSAT I had a 670 verbal- then I started reading and ended up with a 760 on the sat. You're going to have to learn to read because in college you'll get so much reading assigned, so start now and it'll help you on the sat too.

you guys are so cool... thnx for re-assuring me lol!!! I said "detest" simply for emphasis... I hate (yes, completely HATE) fiction books. I open it, read first 2 pages, regress, and i have no idea where I'm reading or what its about. I often watch a movie that was based on a novel, then read a book.

However, I do like non-fictions. I frequently come across some essays done in relation to physics and maths.

Anyways thnx for all those 750 Verballers who hardly ever read. So far apart from the books we study in school, I have only read "The witches" by Roald Daul. But are your first languages all English? Cuz in my case it isnt...

I do not completely detest reading, but I do hate reading fiction with perhaps a few exceptions. English was not my first language. 770V. I drank lots of coffee and studied SAT word lists extensively.
