I’m just wondering if UPenn qualifies as a state school in that state residents have a higher chance of acceptance.

Not at all, sorry. Although I think PA has some state grants to help fund education, no?

i believe there is a slight advantage if you're from philadelphia proper (city quota?), but not for any other area of the state.

I will dropkick your tiny ass man, get out!

haha, i'd like to see you try

I don't want to break your fragile body.

psh fragile

i laugh.

you'll laugh all the way to the pokemon farm where all your pokemon brothers and sisters life

pikachu? try yoshi.

as long as i'm rockin' to a state of trance, it's all good...

it may not be a state school but there is an advantage if you're from penn. i've heard that from penn students, and it makes sense considering duke has a similar preference (admissions officer at duke told me)

Duke has a goal (or requirement?) of 20% in-state students. I don't think Penn has any requirement but many colleges have relationships with the local high schools. This may not result in a particular advantage but may get a local kid a second look-over.

Thanks for the replies. Kinda sucks that the University of PENNSYLVANIA gives no advantage to state students just because it's an Ivy. It's probably the only U of any state to do that. Thanks though.

Well it's not like DUKE gives advantages to noblemen.

It's not just because it's an Ivy. It's a PRIVATE institution, and therefore does not have a preference to kids from any one state. It is NOT a state university. That's what Penn State is for. Another example is WASHINGTON University. They don't give preference to Washington students. It's not even in Washington. But it still has a state name in it. But, it's a private institution. It can do whatever the hell it wants.

You should only get in because you deserve it

Or you can throw a ball well

haha. What if you attached a rather interesting picture for "please attach a picture of yourself to the application"

admissions: It's twue it's twue!
