Any advantage to switching to Business major before orientation?

My undecided, undeclared incoming freshman son is wondering if there are any advantages to switching to a business major now, before orientation/registration. Does it affect chances of getting into the intro business courses he will want to enroll in?

He knows it affects who your advisor is, but he's not really sure what the implications of that really are, given that there are so many Gen Ed requirement to fulfill the first year or so anyway.

He's not absolutely sure he wants to do business, but is probably 80% sure at this point.

Hi, Jane345! Thanks for your question.

We would encourage your son to declare pre-business administration, even if he is unsure about the direction he wants to go in. Some advantages include him being able to work with an academic advising counselor from the get-go at IntroDUCKtion. In addition, he would also receive specific e-mails and important announcements about the pre-business major and internships.

Thanks for this info, UOregon. My son called the academic advisor office yesterday (the one for undeclared.) They told him he should wait until IntroDUCKtion to sort this out.

Hmmmm, now what? Call the business advisors maybe to break the tie?

Hi, Jane345. I would recommend contacting a counselor in the business school. You can reach a undergraduate program counselor at 541-346-3303 or undergrad@lcbmail.uoregon.edu. Good luck and thank you for your question!

Thanks, I will pass on your recommendation to my son. Thanks for supplying the number!

We love having you reps on these college forums!

Of course! We’re happy to help.
