any advice and recommendations for a nice schools for transferring?

Any advice you guys give me will be appreciated! I'm new to this.

I'll be a freshman this fall at a state college, but after taking a course here this summer, I realize that I have absolutely no desire of staying here all four years. I've decided that I want to go to a school not below the NC state line (I need to be away from my family for a change), but still closer to the east coast, but I'm worried about my standardized test scores. I've only taken the ACT, which I took for the first time the spring before applying and I got a measly 24 composite :/ I don't know how bad this is going to look, especially since I didn't go on to college immediately after graduating high school. I realize that where I apply will also depend on my grades after fall semester, but let's say I come out w/ a 3.8 (I'm gunning for a 4.0, of course ;] )

So, what do you guys recommend?

These are my stats:

HS GPA: 3.6 weighted, 4 AP courses, honors curriculum (blech, i know)
ECs: 3 Honor Societies (NHS, and the other two are for foreign languages), Beta Club, membership offices in several special interest clubs, Youth mentor for two years, mentor for Down's syndrome youth for 2 years, and other community service involvement w/o an organization
jobs: I've been a housekeeper/nanny, and a receptionist so far (worked off and on since I was in eighth grade)

Look into these schools they seem like matches for your stats:

Univeristy of Conneticut
University of Pittsburgh
Syracuse
Boston U

Thanks! Boston U is one of the schools that have definitely caught my eye :)

BTW, I meant GPA 3.6 UNweighted (haha)

Maybe you could think about Villanova University in Philly, it's private though, so kinda $$.

UConn only admits 50% of its applicants. For an out-of-state student, the 24 is going to be low. (It'd be low, anyway.)

Have you considered taking the SATs? You can still do it even though you're already in college. It's pretty common for people to take/retake them before transferring.

Stanford, UVA, W&M. Cornell, UNC, GW for safety...
