Any advice for putting together a portfolio?

Hey everyone :) I just applied to Cal Poly SLO for graphic design, and I'm sort of freaking out about the portfolio requirement. I mainly have experience with photography and photoshop, with very little experience with drawing and painting. I do have the ability to draw though, but it takes a lot of work (I'm taking a college art class next semester to improve my skills).

Their portfolio requirements state that only two works need to be hand drawn (black and white drawings), the rest can be computer generated. Anyone have any advice for these drawings? I'm not sure what to draw or what medium to use... I don't want them to know that I'm inexperienced. I know I can pull this off... I just need a little guidance. I really appreciate the help :)

I would make one of them a still life and maybe a portrait. A lot of schools want a self portrait so you might kill 2 birds with one stone with that. DO NOT use a photo to draw from, but stage a still life or draw the room you are sitting in, furniture, etc. Make it from real life. You could use pencil, or charcoal.
