Any advice on how to improve?

I got a 1920 first try (January)
- Only started studying about a week or two prior

M- 720
CR- 610
W- 590

So any tips how to improve for my next try? I definitely want to break 2000 mark and a 2100+ would be lovely.

I have already began studying the direct hits volumes(in process of making flashcards) which should help me with CR a little bit

I bought RocketReview

So can i get any advice to prepare for the May test..Mainly CR and Writing because I can't see myself going up drastically in math.

Thanks! : )

bump bump bump

I don't know if you already got 720, with little/no studying then you might be able to get a 800 with focused studying.... I'm in the same boat - I have good/decent math, but the CR and W sections are hard for me.... I've heard that CR is very hard to improve, because it takes solid foundation throughout school - you can't really prep for it, but as far as writing goes work on improving your essay, and make sure you know all the grammar rules :)

For critical reading I can't stress enough knowing prefixes and suffixes. Especially ones that would give a negative or positive meaning to a word. Also when you're reading the passages, picture it as a game, just think what is collegeboard looking for here. They're never going to ask you to make assumptions, but every now and then you may be asked to read between the lines, The answers will always be right in front of you though. Also if an answer insults or portays an ethnic group, race or gender in a negative light 99/100 times it won't be the answer. CB likes to keep things PC.

Ugh, whoever told you this does not see the SAT for what it really is. The answer to every real SAT passage based reading question directly restates the relevant portion of the passage. This "solid foundation" is completely ludicrous. Just work on finding the relevant portion of the passage(i.e. line citations) and finding the direct restatement in the answer choices. Remember, the SAT cannot measure your reading ability because when you read you are supposed to interpret the text. However, you cannot interpret on the SAT and do well on the CR. The only way the SAT can make a multiple choice reading test is to put a answer right in front of you, directly restated so students will not argue with the CB over correct answer choices, and throw in sneaky wording in incorrect answer choices to lure you to vacillate between choices and waste time.

Every SAT math problem can be solved in 30 seconds or less. When you are practicing with the blue book, try to answer all math questions in a method that takes 30 seconds or less. SAT math is just simple concepts masked via problems you have never seen. They want you to think you need a complex formula or method to solve the problem. However, all the formulas you need are in the front of each test, and you should already know most of those. Actually, after I got done typing this I noticed you had a 720 math, so you should be set on that. Work on minimizing carelessness.

The Writing Section is actually very simple and heavily standardized. Practice with real SAT writing questions to get a sense of what the CB thinks is right and wrong. Go to mystery tutor site to see the specific standards with all the sections(when the site comes back up). And most importantly, do not mindlessly take a prodigious amount of practice tests. Make sure you learn from you mistakes and develop a plan to not make those mistakes again.

doctor - mystertutor is down. do you know when it is coming back???

"Also if an answer insults or portays an ethnic group, race or gender in a negative light 99/100 times it won't be the answer. CB likes to keep things PC." - this is so true. I started noticing this yesterday during my practice SAT. On the writing section, all questions about race were all E, no error.
