I've been accepted into Tulane Architecture (Dean's Scholarship). Also have been accepted to Rice, Wash U, Notre Dame and Carnegie Mellon (all with very little scholarship), and U. of Miami with a Singer Scholarship. I'm torn on my decision, and need to know about the Architecture program at Tulane. It's not rated very high but I was very impressed with the Design/Build program. Are students coming out with jobs?

I cannot speak to the jobs aspect, I know nationally it is a tough time for architects. You should absolutely write directly to the Dean, Kenneth Schwartz, and ask him about the jobs situation. kschwartz@tulane.edu Don’t be shy, this is the best thing to do, absolutely, and he is very approachable. Keep in mind, of course, that you won’t be out for 5 years and things could look very very different then.

As far as rankings, ignore them for any number of reasons. Not the least of which is that they lag what is actually going on at any school by some years. Tulane is a hugely exciting place to be an architecture student these days. There are videos and stories about students seeing their plans actually being built (and building them), being involved in design programs for entire sections of cities, and so forth. But I will let him tell you the details.
