Hey everyone, I was accepted at Tulane about a month ago and I want to major in architecture. Does anyone know what their program is like? (workload, teachers, required classes, or anything else that would be of interest) Thanks

I have a friend in architecture and he seems to really like it. Tulane has the #3 rated architecture program in the country, so you'd be making a good choice by coming here. As far as workload, I know he puts in a significant amount of time into his projects and it takes up the majority of his homework time. That being said, it doesn't hold him back from going out with friends and doing social things, but you will be spending a good amount of time on projects.

Actually, that information is incorrect.

Tulane's architecture program does not rank, and the third ranked school in the US is Syracuse University. That being said, you will get a good architecture education at Tulane but as always, there are other schools who rank higher. There is nothing bad about the TU School of Architecture, so it is ultimately up to the student.

Good luck!

S had a couple friends who started in architecture at Tulane. It's a very rigorous program and even though they were excellent students, both changed majors because of the workload and apparently because they just didn't love it enough to make it worth it. I don't think this happened because it's Tulane, but because an undergrad degree in arch is intense.

I point this out because you should also look at your ability to move into another major at ANY school you're considering in case you find yourself feeling this way too. The good thing about Tulane is that because it's a strong liberal arts school, you'd have some great options.

The rankings depend on the source and the methodology; for example, in this ranking, Tulane is higher ranked than Syracuse, though neither is #3...

Having looked at a lot of different rankings, the only thing I've been able to conclude is that most folks can find a ranking somewhere that suits their particular purpose...caveat emptor.

I got accepted to Tulane too and if I ended up going there, I would do architecture. Is there something we have to do to notify which major we want, or is that only if we are attending for sure?

i think you have to state your major when you go there but i'm not sure

I think you're right that you need to declare Architecture as a major, since it is a 5 year Masters program. But the best thing to do is contact the Admissions office.

but only if i'm actually going there would i declare architecture right?

I'm pretty sure you had to apply for the 5 year Program. When my son was accepted, he called admissions and he was told that he had been accepted into that specific program.

One of my roommates is an architecture major (third year). I don't think I saw him more than three times the entire fall semester.

Have fun!!
