I was wondering how many Asians actually go. The website says about 13%.

Also please state which school in BU you’re going to.

who cares? college is a time to make new friends and become accustomed to new things, not for hiding in your ethnic group.

My sister goes to BU, and there's lots of Asians there. But then again, it's an international-driven place, so it has a huge diversity.

yeah there's a really large asian population. I thought I heard somewhere closer to a third total but I dunno there's a lot. and yeah they all isolate themselves among each other as if they really just all happened to have the same interests and become friends. but yeah college is for broadening your horizons and learning new things.

There are a couple of kinds of Asian students at BU. One is a BU undergrad from America who happens to be Asian. The other is Asians from Asia who are studying at BU. I've known a number of kids from Japan and Thailand, for example, who came to BU to get American college experience, an extra degree, better English, etc.

One thing about Boston is that it's college student heaven. By that I mean, let's say you're Cambodian and interested in traditional dance. Odds are there aren't that many kids at your school, whichever one, to form a really active group. But there is probably a cross-school group in Boston, so you get your group and have contacts at the various other schools.

BU has the 10th largest international community of any university IN THE COUNTRY. Trust me, as an Asian, you will not feel the slightest bit out of place. There are well over 1,000 Asians here and many of them are in the same programs. You won't feel out of place at all.

devilsrule... maybe asians dont want to be around 1000 asians all the time did u ever think of that? i dont really care if there is a large or small asian population

j692- I couldn't care less who you want to be around. The OP made it sound like it was a concern to him so I figured I would let him know. I am Jewish and was glad to hear that BU had a large Jewish population and large Hillel House. My Catholic friend goes to Villanova and loves the fact that many there are Catholic. Why should I assume that an Asian wouldn't like to hear that there is a fairly large Asian population at the school they are going to? Chill the hell out, kid.

Thanks Devilsrule. you answered my question.

I'm glad to hear that. I understand college is about broadening perspectives, but sometimes it's much safer to be around people of your own kind. It's much more comfortable.

I think I'll be seeing you guys in BU (= .

Great to hear! Also, I didn't mean to imply that all Asians or all of any culture solely congregate together. BU is such a diverse and integrated school that we sort of look past all our differences and really embrace all the new opinions, angles, and perspectives that others can bring. I'm sure you will have a great 4 years here, especially in as good a program as SMG.

if ppl are so interested in branching out and broadening their horizons, why is it that in so many schools, BU included, a majority of a given ethnic minority does not branch out to people who are not of that minority; eastern asians, indians, etc. "we sort of look past all our differences and really embrace all the new opinions, angles, and perspectives that others can bring"
If that was completely or even mostly true, this post would not even exist; try to make euphemisms for it as much as you want, but really, people are so narrow-minded that it is annoying to see them try to convince themselves otherwise.

Yeah, someone certainly belongs at Brandeis.

No one said they don't branch out or broaden their horizons. I don't know where you got that from. All I said is that lots of ethnicities are well-represented and people like to have at least some friends of their own culture that they can relate to before they branch out and meet people of many others.

"If that was completely or even mostly true, this post would not even exist"

You've got to be kidding me. Someone who doesn't attend BU and has no idea what it is like created the post and asked the question. He isn't like you and just assumes he knows things that he doesn't. He figured he would post the general question and see if he could get an answer.

"people are so narrow-minded that it is annoying to see them try to convince themselves otherwise"

And its a statement like this that reminds me full well that I shouldn't be arguing with children. I have friends that are Muslim, Catholic, Indian, Korean, Mexican, etc. You name the place and I know someone from it. Who are you to call me narrow-minded or pass a judgment on me? What about that statement is narrow-minded? Where are you getting any of this from? Oh yeah, you are just assuming things and putting words in other peoples mouths.

Get the stick out of your @$$, its not that big a deal. You obviously know nothing about the school, so don't tell me about how it is here. Ask a question if you want, but stop acting like you know a thing about life here. Most people have the respect to ask or inquire, not just assume. That is what separates a mature adult from being a bigmouth kid. I don't mean to insult you, but at this point in your life, as you are getting ready to go to college, you need to really start developing into a mature adult.

Boo-yah... LOL!
(Sorry, couldn't resist. grin )

Ug, I feel bad having to talk back like that, but I just do not have the patience for bigmouth kids. Reminds me of my brother of the same age as this one, never knows when to shut his mouth and admit that he doesn't know everything. I mean, am I wrong? Can a rational and mature person on here confirm my "narrow-mindedness"? Oh well, can't always be nice.

Haha Devilsrule I agree. J692 you should learn to see things from other peoples points of view. Obviously asking and worrying about how the asian population is would not pertain to you cause unless you are asian. The reason you don't care about the asian population is probably because you don't care about other people. Not everything revolves around you.

Devilsrule - I don't see any "narrow-mindedness" in your comments. You're good.

To the OP - I am Asian! But CAS.
