any Canadian acceptances??

Well thanks for the encouragement but it is highly unlikely that I will get a package since both DHL and FeDex can't find anything in my name... The fact that only davidrune got a package should be reasuring for you people still waiting since, for MIT, packages sent Friday came on Monday or Tuesday by DHL to the great majority of my friends on the east coast, in Quebec and Toronto. Keep us posted on decisions.

Later

Jean Leloup

Anyone else from Canada get decisions yet?

btw, the package was sent on thursday

Yes I know that, just giving a quick estimate that if a package sent on a Friday arrived on a Monday or Tuesday, it should be about the same for a package sent on aThursday since DHL has reduced activity on weekends and doesn't deliever on weekends(or at least Sundays) in Canada.

Regardless, I called DHL and it's over for me. I guess winning the grandprize in a competition where 500 000 students competed is just not impressive enough...

Later.

Jean

omg!
Some guy called me a few moments ago and told me i got into Princeton..ah! After a rejection from MIT & Yale...and a waitlist from Harvard...this is too good

I just hope it wasn't a practical joke or smthing :|

So for those canadians still waiting...the wait is not over. I haven't gotten my package (I'm in Quebec, Canada), so hang in there everyone.

wow campbellsoup congrats! that's amazing.
I doubt I'll be getting a phone call or a large package though :(

hehe congrats. was it some delivery guy?

It was an admission officer I think. He gave me some info about campus preview week and travel. I don't think it was a weird joke cuz none of my close friends applied to Princeton..sigh..hehe so happy

Congrats to you campbellsoup, my fellow Marianopolite.

Wow, it is odd though that the admission office would contact you before you received your letter and on a Sunday besides that... I would like all of your opinions on a transmission with the Aid Office that gave me high hopes of admission. I think in vein. Here it is. The important part is the last thread:

Incomplete Princeton Financial Aid Application

Dear xxxxxxxx:

Our records show that you registered and logged in to the Class of 2009 Princeton Financial Aid Application (PFAA) at some point in the last several months. Although you may have saved information on your PFAA, you did not submit it to Princeton University.

If you still intend to apply for financial aid as a prospective applicant to Princeton’s Class of 2009, you should finish the PFAA and submit it by clicking on the ‘Send’ button. The PFAA is available at https://finaidapp.princeton.edu/app/loginFilter.jsp.

It is not necessary to reply to this e-mail if you have decided you will not apply for aid.

Thank you,

The Undergraduate Financial Aid Office

Princeton University

My reply:

To whom this may concern,

I have decided to send my financial aid application by regular mail and it was definately postmarked before the deadline. Please inform my of wether the information provided is complete.

Thank you.

xxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxx

Then this is the important part where they say that they will need my parents' tax return. They don't say:'' If you get in, we'll need it.'' They say that THEY WILL NEED IT. This is what I found cruel and it is crushing me:

from: PFAA pfaa@Princeton.EDU [Add to contacts] [Show all messages]

XXXXXXXX,

We did receive the paper application and at this point your application is complete. Due April 15, 2005 we will need a copy of your parents 2004 tax information or bank statements. If you have any other questions or concerns, please contact our office.

Undergraduate Financial Aid Office

Well I can still hope for a day or two...

Jean

Yah..it seems like they really wanted more info from you. It's quite cruel to give these kinda hopes if it's not for calculating your aid package. But you never know, you might get in tomorrow. Even if you don't all is not lost you can still apply next year :P From what I heard at a Princeton info session two years ago, ivy league universities say they prefer seeing a Quebecer do 2 years of cegep. So it might just be that.

Good luck

campbellsoup,

You might be right but I went to the Ivy info session at Dawson this year and they overtly said that from Quebec you can apply in Secondary 5, CEGEP 1 or CEGEP 2 and that they don't mind. They have changed their stance in the last few years. Regardless, what schools say is not always reality. I am just surprised that DHL can't find a package for me if the financial aid people led me to believe that I was accepted by saying that they would need my tax return by April 15th.

Jean

Just call financial aid tomorrow and say "I was accepted regular decision and I'd like to know if my application is completete for financial aid."

Then they will say "You weren't accepted??" or "Yes it's complete"

:)

hahahaha. lol. sounds pretty good, actually ilcapo.

I rushed anxiously home after a terrible integration exam to find nothing adressed to me, not even a thin envelope. I know a guy from my town who got his rejection letter today so it looks like the same will be coming for me tomorrow. Cambellsoup, have you gotten your acceptance package yet? What about other Canadians? Well congrats to you all. I really thought I had made it, especially after that last e-mail from the financial aid office that I wrongly thought meant acceptance.

Well I hope this will rub off in a few days.

Jean

Hey Jean,

I just got a delivery notice from DHL and from the tracking nb, the package left from NJ. So I guess I'm in. Gl to all other canadians and hey..i know you're disappointed, but try again next year and good luck!

Campbellsoup

Campbellsoup,

I just don't understand. I won some of the most prestigious science awards in the world, am a very good musician, have one about $50 000 worth of prizes and scholarships last year alone, got a reference from a Princeton alum who thinks I'll make a great physicist. He is the one who encouraged me to apply. I am a devoted volunteer, etc etc neways I guess the 1250 on the SAT 1 just ruined my chances... How did you get a DHL delivery notice. Call, e-mail?

Later

later

Hey Jean,

They were at my door this morning, but I wasn't there so they left a small paper. I know how you feel. It's as if your accomplishments meant nothing to the adcoms. There is a wholly random factor in the admission process that no one will ever quite understand.

I mean, hey, I won numerous provincial math awards, placed around top 16ish in Canada, did the CMO, APMO, blabhlah blah volunteering. I didn't get into MIT/Yale and was waitlisted at Harvard while so many others with lesser stats go in.

At some point they aim for diversity i guess. But yah your 1250 really hurt your chances in my opinion. I had a 1590 and 4x800 and most school didn't really care at all. In fact, what i think happens is that they don't care if you're good..cuz everyone's good, but they do care if you got one weakness because not everyone might have it. Again I wish you the best of luck. You have one more year at Marianopolis...so all is not over.

Cya

Your test scores are way beyond mind but my awards are not provincial thingys. They are Best in Canada(out of more than 500 000 students who competed in that competition last year). That number is more than the number of people under 18 that are on a hockey team in Canada! We are also talking having done some published research at McGill U for 10 months and winning top honours at international research competitions. Anyways, have a good time a Princeton.

Received my waitlist letter today (Toronto).

JeanLeloup, ivy league admissions is extremely random, and it is in no way a true reflection of your abilities. I'm sure you will still go to great places and do great things. It's Princeton's loss!

Does anyone know when a possible waitlist or rejection (meh) might reach SK? The mail here is deathly slow. Good luck to the rest of you (esp. Jean) on your decisions. Btw, did you (Jean, and anybody else who wants to reply) apply to McGill?
