I applied to McGill

So are you going there, or do you have any other decisions? I'm struggling with the prospect of choosing a university, esp. if I cannot attend the one that I really had my hope set on. A lot of McGill graduates I've heard of manage to transfer to top US schools, and it's about a fifth of the price of some of the other universities I was admitted to. (Or for you grammar guys: "it's a fifth of the price of some of the universities to which I was admitted." Syntax is troublesome. :))

SpeckTackYouLerr, will you hang on to the waitlist or opt for someplace else?

I have no clue when the mail will reach SK. I suggest that if you have the courage, after waiting for tomorrow's mail, to call the Admissions Office and ask for your decision as they will be releasing them by phone as of tomorrow morning at 8:45 AM. I want to say sorry to everyone on this board for complaining about my situation. I am deserving of a Princeton education but many qualified applicants are in my situation right now and I should not be bitter about it. Sorry, especially to campbellsoup, which I admit having been very condescending toward in my last post. I got carried away. It's just that I wanted this acceptance so much and was led to believe that I was about to get it (foulishly) from the FA e-mail and a forward by the Princeton alum who wrote me a reference in which Rapelye thanked him for the letter about me.

Sincerely,

Jean

JeanLeloup, most likely, I will be at Swarthmore in September. I also got into NYU, Lafayette and Cornell (basically every US school I applied to except Pton and Columbia). I'll hang on to the waitlist, of course, but I know that there is a slim to none chance of getting in.

applesatyr, McGill is a great school (and not to mention, a good bargain :)), from everything I've heard and seen. I'm choosing not to go there mainly because of a personal choice (I grew up in the US, and my parents will be moving to NY next year). I've known people who have attended McGill and gone on great grad schools in the US and abroad.

Good luck with your decisions and choices, you guys! Don't let those ivies get you down!:D (Besides, there is still some hope of getting into Princeton for both of you...)

A friend who goes to the same school got his rejection earlier today (monday)... I haven't received anything yet. Vancouver, BC. Canada.

Jean,

I'm skeptical as to the value of placing well on Canadian science fairs. Science fairs just aren't a big deal in Canada, the competition isn't that fierce, etc, etc. ISEF, on the other hand, is meaningful, but you've never provided any information on how you did there, just self-pitying drivel.

As for letters, I wrote a reference for a friend this year and also received a letter from Dean Rapelye (I was accepted to the class of 08') so that doesn't really mean anything (he was waitlisted). Reading excessively into ordinary events only sets you up for disappointment.

blah_blah,

Thanks for the advice. Well let's just say that the Canada-Wide Science Fair, although not as competitive still attracts the member of Team Canada that go to ISEF and that they, in great proportions, consistently do the best of any delegation to this competition with respect to the number a competitors sent. I can e-mail you more info about me if you which as I don't want to be too easily identified on this board since it would be pretty easy. Since I am in the Quebec CEGEP system, I can still apply ED next year and get a year of advanced placement if I get in. WOuld you be my supervisor for my application. Reading my essay wise?

thanks for the advice

Jean
