Any chance at all RD???

I'm applying RD to dartmouth. It's def my top choice, but i didn't become farmiliar with the school until about mid october when i first visited, so ED wasn't an option. Would it help to maybe write a letter to admissions saying something to this effect?

1380 satI (700v 680m)....retook in december....looking at around 1420 prob
800 writing/780 us history/670 bio
9 ap's through senior year (5 ap us hist, 4 eng lit + world history, 3 physics)
all rest honors courses
3.8 uw gpa/4.12 weighted
roughly 10% percentile (rank not given)

EC's:
US Open Ballperson
Law Firm Internship
Varsity Bowling
Varsity Track
NHS

match i hope,
i got almost the same things as you. I got 4.3 GPA and top 3/300+ but average is only 85% lol. you ECs are very good. i would consider you a very good match (i hope)

I wouldn't call Dartmouth a match for you. Definitely worth a shot, but a 1380/top 10% isn't going to make it a match. Dartmouth is a reach for even the best candidates.

Yeah, its a reach.

I agree with Elizabeth. She had a 1450, nearly perfect SAT IIs, she can obviously write well, etc. and she didn't get in. You should definitely give it a shot, but I don't think Ivies are ever matches. That being said, good luck.

yeah i hope it works out...even though i know its gonna be tough

What are my chances?

For my rec letters, I had my AP US History and Advanced Biology teachers write them.

I wrote my essay on Topic 1, and basically expanded my CommonApp short answer (which I didn't realize until now, as the essay was a holdover from the second Yale essay, which specifically asks for me to expand the CA short answer).

I wrote my CommonApp short answer about how Forensics, in addition to improving my speaking skills, actually allowed me to really form friends. Before the state competition, I got along with most people but really didn't have a life outside of school, and the state competition (particularly the bus ride back from it) inspired me to really go further and become friends with people (my academic performance didn't suffer, either). My actual answer was much more eloquent than that, but it's after midnight and I don't feel like rewriting it here.

In High school I've had straight A's, except for an A- in Yearbook (I got assigned the Student Council page after all SC meetings were done for the year, so I wasn't able to really get pictures in time), and three A-'s in Spanish classes (Span I: A-, A-), (Span II: A-, A). For my core academic classes I've had straight A's.

My parents both went to state colleges in Minnesota, but not to grad school, if Dartmouth looks at that.

I've worked at a grocery store for almost two years, and before that I worked at a pizza place for a few months (with a year off in between - my pizza job was before I could drive).

Another girl in my class is applying to Dartmouth but she got about a 25 on the ACT, and a 470 on the SAT II US History, and thought it was above average. Does Dartmouth compare candidates from the same school?

What are my chances of getting in? This is RD of course.

Hey, Alex. Where in Wisconsin do you live? Did you go to that dinner that the Dartmouth alumni organized?

Oh, and (tactfully) tell that girl to stop wasting her time. It seems like she'd be lucky enough to get into Madison.

Yeah, that girl in making a donation. You have a great shot though.

Your scores, grades and ECs are similar to my daughter's, her SAT was higher/34ACT, your SATIIs are a little higher - she was accepted ED. I don't think they will care too much about that SAT with a 35, especially since you are from the Midwest. You have a good shot, I would think.

Well, I did get invited to that dinner, but it was in Milwaukee, which is five or six hours away from my house. I live in Prescott (the western-most town in Wisconsin), which, as far as WI goes, is in the middle of nowhere in the Northwestern part of the state. Now, St Paul, MN is about 30 miles northwest of me, but I decided not to clue Dartmouth in on that one. Dartmouth and Yale both invited me to events in Milwaukee and Madison, even though I live so much closer to the Twin Cities.

Also, I know this is the Dartmouth thread, but would anyone mind taking the time to assess my chances at the other places I'm applying: Harvard, Yale, Penn, Williams, Wesleyan, Pomona, Carleton (which is 40 minutes from my house).
I've also applied and got accepted to UW-Oshkosh (full ride), U of MN, U of St. Thomas (MN), and St John's U (MN).

Ah, that sucks, Alex.

Yeah, I had a 6-hour round trip for a 2 hour dinner. Oh well. The head of the Wisconsin alumni was there, and he sent our names to the regional director, so we'll have a little extra help.

And you don't need to worry about Dartmouth's meeting thing. If you got invited to the one that was fairly recently, they didn't even have our regional officer. Some lady who takes care of the far Northeast came, and she was out of it from the long plane ride. You didn't miss much.
